Pretty much all of them that aren't horizontally-oriented except Soukyuugurentai, Radiant Silvergun, and Steam Hearts.

Both Detana Twinbee and Twinbee Yahhoo in the Detana Twinbee Yahhoo Deluxe Pack are vertical without tate. Detana was vertically oriented for the arcade, but Yahho is a vertical game with a horizontal orientation like Soukyuugurentai.JoshF wrote:Pretty much all of them that aren't horizontally-oriented except Soukyuugurentai, Radiant Silvergun, and Steam Hearts.

"Fellow Dutchman" ??
Cheers for the link, very nice site. So how much of the screen is cut off with black borders in Commando and Gunsmoke? Still worth a purchase?
I recently set up a dedicated tate-screen, and am looking to get as many games with tate as possible.
I have:
Dodonpachi (sat)
Gunbird 2 (dc)
Psyvariar complete (ps2)
I have ordered:
Gunbird (sat)
Layer Section (sat)
Any other recomendations from anyone? Preferably something not too expensive

As in, we are both from The Netherland (Holland) in Europe. We actually know each other from nozomi forums!w-ring wrote:"Fellow Dutchman" ??

He called me a noob because I said Hokuto No Ken is a technical fighter
As for Commando and 1942, 1943, they have big black borders. I am not sure about the Playstation version though, but the saturn version has these borders. Worth a purchase? You decide. Mercs is full screen though. As for Gunsmoke, I can't remember.

Personal opinion:w-ring wrote:What is a better Saturn purchase: Strikers 1945 2, or Donpachi?
I know both are supposed to be better on the PS1, but of the two, which Saturn version is better in terms of slowdown etc?
And which is the better game?
- Donpachi: much better game, crappier version.
- Strikers 1945 II: much worse game, better version.

Sinic Wings Special = best value for money.w-ring wrote:How about Gekirindan and Sonic Wings Special? Worth a look?
I am a big fan. most see it as mediocre
Gekirindan is ok, but the time travel aspect. every level set in a different time doesn't do anything for me. decent enough Taito shmup. Not Great, but pretty cool. SWS is dirt cheap, so indulge.

Cheers for the info on SWS. I though sonic wings on the super famicom was pretty nifty (very psikyo-like) so I think SWS will be a good buy for me. Plus it's nice that there are some saturn shooters that don't break the bank.
I got offered Strikers 1945 II saturn for £10. Is that worth going for? Does the slowdown make it unplayable?

Another vote for Sonic Wings here. Although it's obviously nowhere near being the best shump ever made or anything, I do have a big soft spot for this series. It has a lot of character.
I wouldn't rush to pick up Gekirindan, it's a cool arcade game but the Saturn port isn't exactly spectacular. Something to pick up near the end of your Saturn collecting I'd say...
If it's in good condition the price is fine, and I'd say go for it. If you play both ports you'll certainly notice the difference, but the slowdown in the Saturn version certainly does not make it unplayable - it's still one hell of a great shmup.w-ring wrote:I got offered Strikers 1945 II saturn for £10. Everything about SWS.
This is a megamix of the 3 SW. There are early random stages (like most psykio / video sytem games) then branching paths. Some are only available with unlocked secret ships.
