Astro City: Reaching the G2

Post by zinger »

Okay, my monitor is acting weird since a somewhat unsuccessful screen flipping attempt. The colors are off and white diagonal lines travel the screen, and the background is brighter than usual. I was told to check the G2/screen pot, aswell as R/G/B cutoff, which I assume are all located on the chassi board.

Because of the rediculously small back window of the Astro, it seems impossible to reach these controls fom outside the cabinet, without removing the screen. Still, the screen needs to be connected if I'm going to be able to tell what's happening when turning the pots. I've never actually tried to lift the screen off (problems with one of the nuts, fixed now), so I have no idea what nightmarish experience I could possibly have to go through.

Please share what to keep in mind when messing with the screen controls on the Astro City chassi board. Are the cables / cords even long enough for the screen to be outside of the cabinet? :?

Thanks!

The RGB cutoff pots are on the neck board of the monitor, which should be easily accessable from the back panel. Although without knowing exactly how you borked the rotation job, this might not help that much. I assume degauss didn't make things better?

The screen knob is on the flyback, which is on the main monitor PCB. If its too difficult to reach this through the back panel, I've had no problem making other monitor PCB adjustments while its its sitting outside the cabinet. The Jamma harness shouldn't have a problem reaching it.

Yes sound's like it's the flyback check the screen pot on it (do you hear a noise from it if u look @ a bright screen? f.e cross hatch)
but be careful and move the pot very slow
also check if u have connected all GND wires
