GWG Video (More Substantial)
GWG Video (More Substantial)
Ok, as the topic states, here is some better, lengthier video of Takumi's latest. I've been working on tactics for a No Bomb/No Miss run, and can do the first 4 stages in this manner. The following video is the first 3 levels (I don't get the greatest score, but that wasn't really my focus) since I decided to become totally reckless and suicidal in stage 4.
GWG No Bomb, No Miss Levels 1 through 3, 64 Megs
Oh.. and I editted out the ridiculous load times.
I'll keep working at this though. Enjoy this half demonstration.

...whoa.
Shots connecting with certain (or all) enemies dispense medals...certain enemies turn all onscreen bullets into medals...zomg fun times are to be had. The gameplay in all looks absolutely batshit insane. Exactly how Gigawing should be. ^_^
And yeah, most of the sound effects sound like they're taken DIRECTLY from GW1 (but at least they're loud and clear now as opposed to GW2) ...and good lord those boss explosions look disgusting...I mean you can literally SEE the third boss just VANISH underneath that encircling orange blob that's supposed to be an explosion.
...I laughed at that for like...10 minutes.

Looks like an idea taken from Mars Matrix's over-the-top mode.Skyline wrote:Shots connecting with certain (or all) enemies dispense medals...
Yeah, it looks so good. It'll be a little hard to adjust to no slowdown during a reflect. I'm used to (and like) the games chugging a bit while pushing some bullets around. The gameplay in all looks absolutely batshit insane.
Graphically and musically I don't see much of anything to complain about. Boss explosions just look a little weird, but I was expecting bad on par with the "bug splat" ship explosions in GW2. Bullet count is at least as high as GW2.
I see you're using Original. No real problems then? Good.

See my comments on the other thread.
Great gameplay, totally ruined by the graphics. Frame rate is very shoddy and makes tracking bullets MUCH more difficult than it should be. Score bonus numbers and player bullets have a higher priority than enemy bullets and your own ship, again obscuring things. The charge meter in the bottom right has a higher priority than everything else, making it an unsafe no-go area for bullet dodging. Many cases where enourmous player bullets overlap enemy ones entirely, causing death. Oh, and despite the reduced framerate, it slows down when it gets busy even more. Sometimes bullets flicker instead when it can't cope.
It makes me sad. I bought it after seeing one of the posted videos, they don't give a good impression as to how bad the graphics problems really are.

Well, from now on I'm waiting for reviews. I pre-ordered the game and couldn't cancel. And I'm still waiting for my shipment from Play-Asia ?!?
I should have gotten Dragon Blaze instead. Oh well, soon I will be getting my copy of BATTLE GAREGGA and LAYER SECTION for Saturn. These good games will help me forget the monstrosity called GWG.

You should be spending much of the time in the upper portion of the screen, and that's where the meter has been for the last two GWs. Didn't notice a problem before. Is this different?bloodflowers wrote:The charge meter in the bottom right has a higher priority than everything else, making it an unsafe no-go area for bullet dodging.
Mod edit from Dylan1CC: Just trying to break this up a bit. Keep it friendly, guys. These good games will help me forget the monstrosity called GWG.
Oh, I didn't know opinions couldn't be expressed here <snip>Rob wrote:These good games will help me forget the monstrosity called GWG.
Mod edit from Dylan1CC: Yup, opinions are welcome, just no flaming. Also, how do you know for sure GWG is a "monstrosity" when you haven't received the game yet? Try to be a little objective, your very frustrating experience with Play Asia and bad impressions aside.
how come the movie looks pretty smooth with no real frame rate problems, if other people say its so bad?
It looks fine to me.

The movies don't really get across the sense of jerkiness. I had cancelled my order, but placed one again after seeing a video. Now I wish I hadn't.uwfan wrote:how come the movie looks pretty smooth with no real frame rate problems, if other people say its so bad?

OK, you're the one that needs to calm down, buddy. Not me. All I was doing by editing those posts was trying to curb a possible flame war so the thread can stay open and people can keep posting. Everything I do is taken into careful consideration with what is wanted by the admins and owners and based on past problems we have had. Which is better? A)Two posts get edited and a pointless argument is avoided or B)It's allowed to continue, gets worse, more people jump in and bicker and the thread is ruined?

I have been doing some thinking and I realize now a lot of what I have been doing is pre-emptive/prevention which I need to cut waaay back on. I assure everyone that it was all in good intentioned and I hope I haven't offended a lot of people. I will try to be less rigid. I just don't like to see shmup fans flaming but I guess maybe my def of "flame" may be a little too broad.

Dylan:
There was a thread on the old forums (I think it was the "I got issues [gripes?] with you guys" thread) in which someone asked a mod to lock it. The moderator response was to the tune of 'locking the thread now will only serve to piss off people who will simply start a new thread to discuss the old topic, anyway.' I think there was also a note of 'Moderators shouldn't need to be mediators as well. Post authors should work out their differences with each other.'
I prefer that style of moderation.
Kiken:
Apologies for the continued derailment of your thread. I wish I had some comments on the video, but I feel very out of place in the discussion having not played GigaWing 2. Still, thank you for the video.

Thanks Kiken; just watched it!
OK, now I REALLY don't understand what all the complaining is about. I mean, this game looks beautiful!! For 30FPS, it seemed to move along at a fine pace to me. I thought the explosions looked fantastic-OK, the end of the boss explosions looks like red haze, but other then that, they look great.
If we can expect more Type-X ports on the JPS2, which will be even better then this, then when I get a job, my first paycheck may very well go towards a JPSTwo, and a copy of this game. Seriously, I think I'm in love!

Nice. It really makes me want to play the game... I love how you just rush everything instead of hanging in the back dodging bullets (a tactic I have yet to get the hang of...).
I definitely want to get it, along with some more Saturn shmups, but since I'm doing a year-long study abroad in Japan, I think I'm just gonna save up a shitload of money and then just hunt down everything there. Still though, this definitely looks like a winner... can't wait to try it.

Yeah - I die when I move up the screen. It makes quite a portion of the very bottom unusable on that side, more so than the 4:3 aspect previous games.Rob wrote:You should be spending much of the time in the upper portion of the screen, and that's where the meter has been for the last two GWs. I just watched the run through of the first level on the video Kiken posted (thanks) and it looks much smoother and enjoyable than some impressions have made it out to be. The point blank-rushing move looks like a lot of fun and could be the best thing since tech bonuses in Strikers '99.
Looks like the lack of TATE in the PS2 port won't dissuade me, now just gimme Raiden III also.

(since nobody read the last reply seemingly)
It's a lot jerkier first hand than it looks on any of the videos. Watch it full screen to get a better impression (and even then they don't do the juddering full justice). I was one of the people being impartial right until I played it. It IS playable, but don't for a second assume the graphics are acceptable in any way.

Having said that, I got GWG today. Just played it for 10 minutes, but don't have enough experience with the game to give it a thumbs down or up. The noticeable thing for me is that the feel of the game seems off. The frame rate is decent but it seems to have a frame skip.
If you're ordering from Play-Asia, don't get the box get the mailer as it will arrive sooner. My Psyvariar 2 Ultimate Final arrived last week and it was sent after GWG ?!?
