Best supergun solution for SH-3 audio?

Post by cody »

I'm wiring up audio for my jamma harness; I was just going to get a $5 car audio line level converter off ebay, but I've heard cave sh-3 boards have problems with attenuators.

What's the best solution for this? I don't want to just run the audio to an 8-ohm speaker, because I need to be able to use headphones (kid on the way).

Have a bypass switch for the attenuation circuit.

Wire up a 3.5mm jack to switch.

With switch turned to attenuation circuit = off, plug headphones in.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Headphones have an impedance of 30~40ohms; is it naive of me to think that might not be good for the pcb's amp to hook them up directly?

Edit: realized that'll be halved if i run the headphones in parallel to get the mono signal in each ear, but still . . .

No problems here using the ICE type line level converter with SH-3 (or any other). I wire 10+L in parallel, not series, btw.

You can run the amped sound direct to 30-40ohm headphones as well, just be very careful with volume adjustment on the PCB; it will be extremely loud with more than a hair of a turn. Studio headphones rated at 240+ohms are better suited, but expensive.

Thanks for the reply; by ICE do you mean Integrated Circuit, or is that some particular type / design ?

Edit:
Ah, I suppose you meant IEC :

ICE = In Car Entertainment, so car audio type as you mentioned.

So long as it's a circuit board...thumbs up from me.
