1) Go to the test menu.
2) Enter "GAME SETTINGS"
3) Set Chute 1 to 9COINS/9CREDITS and set Chute 2 to 9COINS/9CREDITS
4) Set Free Play to ON
5) Exit "GAME SETTINGS"
6) Enter "I/O TEST"
7) Hold Service and Test buttons, and press P2 Start repeatedly to jack up "DAYS OF OPERATION" to 70 (or 140 for some RF2 boards.)
8) Exit "I/O TEST".
9) Reset Chute 1, Chute 2, and Free Play settings as you wish.
10) Exit "GAME SETTINGS" and exit test menu.
11) Reboot the game.

Using Slave/Fairy:
RF2/RFJ: Follow above directions. Hold BOMB after inserting credit then press START, then release BOMB.
RF1: If Raiden MKII and Judge Spear are present, hold direction towards "edge" of the player selection (i.e. Down or Left if Judge Spear, Up or Right if Chaser) and press SHOT+BOMB+START. If not, select Chaser, hold Down, then press SHOT+BOMB+START.

thanks a bunch!

been kicking myself ever since i initialized the rom on my rf2 :oops:

btw, days of operation to 70 unlocks some. 140 gets them all

By the way, it's worth noting that Dark Sword's palette can be found in RFJ during the Ship Select screen. How suspicious.

Just a note on RF1 which is fiddlier than its sequels in every way possible:

For the most ease in ship selection, use the Service menu to unlock Judge Spear and Raiden Mk II.

To select your starting stage, hold the joystick while pressing the Start button at the "game start" / credit entered screen. (Holding Down will let you start at the forest stage.)

To select slave, I found I had to tap the direction as well as start + shot + bomb, all at the same time. Holding the joystick and then tapping the buttons didn't work.

Fuckin' fiddly piece of shit.
