A NEW part in the Star Soldier series to come to handhelds!?

Post by Super Laydock »

Hi all,

Once again the (very reliable) german gamesnews site Gamefront has some possibly great news for us shmupo's...

Apparently a Hudson spokesman has confirmed they are working on a new episode for the Star Soldier series!

here's the (again babelfish translated) newpost from gamefront:
Hudson plans new star Soldier 03.04.05

- Hudson works on a new part of the Shooter series star Soldier. The confirmed a speaker of Hudson soft on a meeting of NTT Communications in Tokyo. Episodes of the classical author appeared 2003 last on Gamecube and PlayStation2 (Hudson Selection of volume. 2: Star Soldier). The newest part was not confirmed on a Handheld to possibly appear, officially however yet.
So a handheld episode seems likely but the format is (or even whether it IS gonna be handheld) NOT confirmed.
Still good news I guess! :D

Good news...IF Hudson gets back to form on the Star Soldier series. They should play Soldier Blade again to see what they did right.

Sweet.

I miss the days when "handheld" meant GameBoy. Now we have to wonder if it'll be on GBA or DS or PSP. Too complicated.

Knowing the japanese and their crazy ideas it could also mean mobile phones. :?

Let's hope we get more info soon. I'm a sucker for the Soldier series.

I wish for a console port, because I don't got a DS or a PSP, and I'm not planning to get one anytime soon.

Eh, if it isn't better than the last couple of Star Soldier games, then it isn't much to get excited about. Let's hope they do a competant Blazing Lazers ripoff this time.

Am I the only person who thought the PS2/GC Star Soldier was fun? It wasn't a very deep game, but it was a lot of fun.

I would prefer a Super Star Soldier / Final Soldier / Soldier Blade style game more than another 3D "modern" remake though...

Yeah, the danger of the new one being a cellphone game is very high. Stupid cell games... I've tried the cell games services of multiple companies and none are all that great. Not even Cave... :?

I thought Star Soldier was some decent fun for a while. I haven't played it in ages, but it was a good, cheap thrill.

GC/PS2 Star Soldier was fine addition to the series. It suffered from some crap textures and it could have used a speed down button but otherwise it stands with my favs Super Star Soldier and Soldier Blade. *-neo

The GC/PS2 version is actually a graphically updated port of the Super Famicom version found on the Caravan Shooting Collection. I've always thought it was odd they chose that one to do instead of the original. I suppose the later version definitely has more depth, but those Hudson collections were frustrating in the same way that the Sega one's were in that they didn't include the original game. Why not include all the Bonk and Adventure Island (especially the SNES ones) on those discs? Then the 3D remake would just be a nice bonus instead of the entire product. Still, to get even the GC/PS2 version simply ported to the PSP would be good enough as it's simplicity would make it the perfect road shmup.

I'm intrigued by the Super Fami Star Soldier...was it a arranged version of the Famicom game or updated with 16 bit graphics and sound?

They should have threw the original source game on each disc, after all every game had a omake menu, it couldn't be that hard to port Star Soldier or Bonk's Adventure. *-neo

Sadly, it is the Famicom game.

great news. it better be on a platform i'll actually use (i.e. not mobile phone). sadly my only exposure to the series so far is Soldier Blade (and Blazing Lazers, if that counts, which it doesn't  ).
I have no sig whatsoever.
