My Turbo Duo's sound is dying!!!

Post by TWITCHDOCTOR »

Yea.
Upon power on, its takes about 20 to 30 seconds to actually hear the CD sound.
Hucards will play, and you can hear the game and music just fine, but the CD part is questionable. I'll add that the sound effects with the CD sound just fine, its the music from the actual CD(music chip) going out from what I gather.
I can play regular music CD's with it. I don't use it for this purpose, but I wanted to test it to see if it worked. Anyway, I think the CD sound chip is going out fast becuase the music was at a lower volume than it should have been...Is there anyway to repair this?

I've been playing Gradius II Gofer, and basically, the sound effects are overpowering the CD soundtrack(which is awesome by the way).

Any help or advice will be appreciated!

Mods, if you feel the need to place this in the "Tech" section, then thats fine...just as long as its up here where people can see it.
Thanks.

Didn't the handheld exhibit a similar problem? Surely if the problem is conductivity you can just make a new bridge or trace line.

Lasers will either work or not, they will not show these symptoms at all.

The 100v-110v does make a difference to some equipment, but I'm sure this problem is not affected by that. Otherwise Japanese would never suffer the same problem. Or is this problem isolated to imported PCE duo's into the USA?
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Thank you very specineff!!! Has anyone here ever delt with Oldschoolgamer.com before? Are they to be trusted? Or are they out of Southern Florida?! (bad joke  )

It looks as though I may have to go this route...I can't be without my Duo for too long, as I have too many wonderfull games!
I may even get my Duo "suped-up". Quite possibly a brand new CD lens, composite video jacks(to do away with the serial bus original type) as well as the original repair...which is failing CD sound, of which they describe as a common fixable problem.

Sounds good...let me hear some advice/feedback.
So far, I haven't a price for all this, as I will email them when I have some more time.

Thanks again.

BTW: My Duo unit is a USA model, and I live in the US. Its purely 110 juiced.

Greg has dealt with them, and they were superb to deal with by his account.

Where is Matt Ross when we really need his wonderful modding/repair for classic gaming console services? ^_~

He could whip up a plain-vanilla (unmodded) PC Engine Duo/Turbo Duo console and give it various A/V outputs such as: RCA Composite Video output, S-Video output, Left & Right Stereo output, and lastly, analog RGB output as well. Plus even have dual compatibility with both USA and JPN Hu-Cards based games at the 'flick' of a switch..... ^_~

We miss ya, Matt Ross..... ^_~
