xbox 360 vga + lcd hdtv help

Post by gundamalpha »

i have a 360 and a 32' lcd "hd ready" tv. i'm currently using hd component cable running in 1080i for display and not overly impressed so might buy a vga cable instead. my concern is will my tv display 1080i properly through it? my lcd tv resolution is 1366x768, and it mentions in the tv's manual hd content will only be utilised through component or dvi input.

any help please?

oh my lcd tv is philips' 32TA1000

I dont see why you should go with 1080i which is interlaced and therefore pure evil.

If I were you I'd buy the VGA cable, set the output resolution of the X360 to WXGA (aka 1366×768 aka the native resolution of 99% of the fucking HDTVs, yours included) and forget about the rest

To add to the very sensible post above, before you shell out on the VGA cables, try setting the console to 720p, considering that it's the optimal vewing resolution for your TV's native res.

lcd for gaming is gross
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

almost, his native resolution is 768p. But 720p is way better than 1080i for his set for gaming. When watching national geographic or something slow moving, you could try the 1080i setting. But as discussed before it all depends on which up/down scaler is the best. The one in your tv or the one in your equipment. My tv native resolution is 720p. I for the love of god don't see why 768p was introduced. There is nothing that supports it. Nothing. Nothing is developed in that resolution, afaik. Everything you ever put into your set is either downscaled or upscaled.

Its a standard VGA resolution.

Agreed with above posts. 720p is better. Since your TV only has DVI its going to be old, one of the 1st generation HDTV's.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Yet here it is not listed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_display_standard
What does 'standard' mean anyway?

Here, "standard" means it's easy for manufacturers to get mass produced panels at that resolution & stick em in their lcd tv sets ;)

but yeah, that resolution is a mess.

i know my answer already. thanks for everyone's help. i just realised i could change the resolution on the 360 itself and the result is satisfying, much more better than hd.
