I've updated one new score (mine). Finally reached lvl 5 but with zero lives and zero bombs and prompty died. Other than that... I need some skills.

PS2 Double Mode - Arcade

4102120 - Lev. 3

... Picked this up the other day for the double mode; it's more fun than I thought it would be (once you get the hang of the twin analogue sticks). I'll try to spend some more time with it...

Updated.

Yeah it's pretty nuts. I should get back to playing this. Gradius V is currently taking all my attention...

It's funny because for double I HAVE to play with the p1 ship on the left and p2 on the right. If they switch I get all confused and get owned. I guess that's just natural...

Yeah, I know what you mean. I constantly get reminded of the film, Ghostbusters: "Don't cross the f'ing streams... or something baaaad will happen!"

Incidently: Anyone know what the WR is for Double Mode, just for reference?

Haven't improved my score yet: Need to find a way to avoid quick double-deaths on that stage 3 boss...

Anyway, couldn't find the WR for Double Mode whilst skimming through the old thread; but did come across a couple of scores that haven't been transferred to the "new" thread:

Nice, making progress. I just started playing again after a little break so hopefully I'll be posting up a new score or two soon.

... Found the stage 4 boss easier than stage 3's; mainly 'cause it didn't have any support enemies...

I died together with the 2nd boss, after dropping a bomb. How annoying , I shouldn't die after dropping a bomb! goddamn.

In Double Mode: The ship that initiates the bomb, AFAIK, is instantly protected. Your other ship, if too far away from the blast radius, doesn't get the same protection; unless it's close enough. This actually forces you to think which smart bomb to use; rather than just spam the nearest one!

is it better now? :)

I just press both bomb buttons on dispair. That's exactly what happened though, I bombed with the red ship but the blue one died, while the boss was exploding in the background.

Damn annoying, I can tell you :)

This gives me the best "Up to level 2" score on the double table :)

Need to get to level 3 now :)

EDIT

Double mode ARCADE

3485010 Lev. 3 Shatterhand

Not much improvement, but I reached Level 3 at least.

What really amazes is how I always lose 2 lives one after the other.

When one of my ship dies, I just forget that the other is STILL alive. I just turn out my brain for like a couple of seconds, and POW, the other ship dies too.

I think it has something to do with the fact that when I play solo (like any shmup), after you die you are invencible for a couple of seconds, so I probably just don't care about dodging at this moment.

I need to re-train my brain here...

Those floating mines, right?

Yeah, they're a friggin pain... FWIW, you can make their patterns more predictable by waiting and shooting them when their red, attached pods (that fire the large red bullets) are facing 'away' from you...

The problem is that; usually my fingers are glued to the fire buttons and forget to do that!

Nice steady progress...

True I could wait for the red pods to emerge. But then there's no score bonus :D .

Quite happy with this score considering I never witnessed 90% of stage 5 before this run.

But when I obtained the crappy green laser weapon in stage 6 the run came to a sad end :( .
