XRGB2 works, SCART does not problem.

Post by neorichieb1971 »

Hey guys,

I got a supergun built recently and it works like a dream through the XRGB2 on a 31khz monitor. The AV output is neo geo spec, the DIN8 design.

If I change the cable from Japanese 21 pin to European scart lead and put the cable in my TV I get a jumping, rolling black screen.

I just wondered if there is anything a standard Neo Geo Euro cable doesn't have that a JAP21 pin cable does have which is causing this. Since the DIN8 config never changes surely the picture should work with both cables.

So basically this is the results -

XRGB2 works fine through 21 pin cable
XRGB2 outputs audio fine when supergun is attached (through 21 pin cable)

Euro scart gets a black rolling, jumpy picture with no sound.

The obvious first port of call is change the SCART cable, but if this fails is there anything else I should know?

Thanks,

Richie.

I am not sure exactly what your problem is, but tid bit that might be helpful is that even though the scart and japanese 21 share the same connector, they do not have the same pinout. You can't use them interchangeably.

Could it be that the ground wire is missing/damaged in the Euro Scart cable?

and...

Does the Euro Scart cable have the correct voltages to enable RGB (on the Supergun socket), since the XRGB2 doesn't need these to work?

Check www.gamesx.com for the pinouts and build yourself an adapter cable from Euro Scart to Jap Scart (JAP 21 pin RGB on gamesx).
All errors are intentional but mistakes could have been made.

I can vouch that such a Euro Scart to JPN 21-pin RGB adapter will work wonders for you, neorichieb1971..... ^_~

Such an adapter won't change nothing... Read the first post, his cables are correct, the problem lies in the supergun din socket.

Another suggestion: maybe the sync signal voltage is too high for the TV.

Are you sure it's an Euro RGB Scart cable ?
Might be worth checking which pins are connected in both cables

I had two cables, one is XRGB, one is proper Euro SCART.

The Din8 was built and tested on a XRGB setup, but I assumed that because the Din8 output worked on XRGB, I could just use my Euro NG cable and it would work on a SCART TV. A year ago I had an old SG that used the Euro cable through a trancoder to component and it worked then. But this new SG is a revision built almost from the ground up and was tested only on XRGB.

The adaptor sounds like the way to go. Please let me know :)
