What model of PS2 to get?

Post by HardcoreOtaku »

Hi peeps,
I'm going to get a jap PS2 and I've been looking around and there's loads of different models SCPH-10000 to SPCH-77001a/b
I'll only be using it to play Jap PS2 & PS1 Shooters so on that basis what Model would you recommend?

Thanks
:D

Either the last one (best of the slims) or the SCPH-50k series (best and last of the original models).

Definately a non-slimline PS2.

Get the Ethernet adapter, a hard drive, and HDLoader.

Not only will HDLoader overcome regional lockouts, you'll have all your games at your fingertips, faster load times, and you'll never have to touch your actual discs again.

slim is fine, avoid the V12's though. Laser's die unexpectedly

Cheers guys for advice so far :D

From what I can see the jap slimlines are readily available new , they are smaller which I like.
So it sounds like a jap slimline PS2 will meet my needs, I only want it to play Jap shooters, so overcoming regional lockouts is not an issue.

any more advice appreciated 8)

I've had a white JP slim for over two years now, which I bought brand new. It's worked perfectly since I bought it. And I've played it a lot. I'm very happy with the quality and reliablity of the unit.

Same story here. Well, perhaps I've had mine a little less than 2 years. It's compact size is a bonus when you have other consoles in your setup.

SCPH-3900X Series.
Aka, Version7. Easily the most durable laser availible on any old model system. 50k series was a step-up since it has PS and IR receiver built-in, however these were no longer manufactured in Japan, for what it's worth. From what I've heard cheaper materials and not as good a laser (although I've never had problems with mine).

Version 7=SCPH-39000, 39001, 39001/N, 39010/N, 39002, 39003, 39004, 39008 or 37000

Yes, of the bulky model V7 is supposed to be the best. Among other things the PS1 driver was changed for V8 (interlace even for lo-res PS1 games), I don't know if they corrected this in later revisions.
