Which PS2->Neo Geo adapter is best?

Post by CIT »

I wanna get an adapter from Playstation to D-sub (Neo Geo), so I can use my HRAP with my supergun.

I'm thinking of getting the one from Tototec. Does anybody have any experience with it? Is there any lag?

There is no best; that's the only PS-to-DB15 adapter out there. I'd also not advise making your own since you'll need to program the conversion.

I don't have one but I hear it's very solid. The downside is that as a NeoGeo controller, you can only have 4 buttons. Also, if your supergun DB15 ports don't have the same depth as those on the Neo Geo (I know Sigmas are OK), there could also be trouble connecting the adapter to your supergun.

Yeah, I've got one of those things and they are pretty good, virtually lag-free. Damn cheap too. The only problem is that the PS2 to Neo button layout is kinda wonky, something like:
- AC button A = Square
- AC button B = X
- AC button C = Triangle
- (AC button D = Circle)

However, you can switch your HRAP's buttons around to recreate the ABC horizontal layout if you want to replace parts or something, which is what I did when I fitted some Sanwa buttons. Games that can't have reconfigurable controls (like some PC shooters like Chorensha) will have some pretty weird button layouts, but otherwise you can reconfigure almost every other console and PC game (and MAME) if required.

As for the four button thing, unless you're wanting to get some Capcom vs fighting games, four is all you need.

Okay, sounds good. :)

I've ordered a Special Addition, so it already has the buttons I want. They have quick connectors, so I can just un- and replug those whichever way I like, no?

I assume you're referring to the HRAP? I have a HRAP1 v1 and the buttons are very easy to remove (twisty-on ones I think, been a while since I had to change parts). Can't say the same for Special Addition, since I have never seen one of those before, but if it's the same as a standard RAP then I'd imagine it being the same deal with regards to part swapping.

Some info on HRAP here, if you need some more info:

Protip: If you're going to swap your buttons around, make sure you label all the wires with their respective buttons first - Tri, X, Sq etc - or else it'll get confusing when you come to reassemble your control panel. ^_-
