Does anyone know how to get the hi score to display in guwange when the game is in free play mode?

Today I finally finished the game on one credit and would like to know my final score.

Umm... turn off freeplay?
As far as I know, it'll stay on the title screen if there's a credit in the machine, and that includes freeplay.

Unlike the majority of games that cycle the attract even with credits in the machine, the early Cave seemed to like sticking to the title screen.

It doesn't work. Once I input my initials, the game goes to the title screen without showing any of the high scores.

Is this on an actual PCB, or emulated? If the latter, which emulator?
