Best Windows 98/XP shmups, that you can find in stores??..

Post by dave4shmups »

I'm not looking to download anything, since (this will change soon) I don't have a credit card and couldn't pay for the shmup online, so are there any good ones for Windows 98 or XP that I could find at, say, EB Games?

Only things that come to mind for PC is the touhou games (Perfect Cherry Blossom, Imperishable Nights...).

But they said it was hard to find lately ^_^ You can always download them before they are reprinted and buy them at this moment ^^;

i don't know if they're available state-side, but things like raystorm got budget pc releases here in the uk (ie less than £5) and they definitely work on xp.

I should have specified that I'm not interested in bullet-manic PC shmups. Probably not much left in the more traditional category, then?

Guess only G-Darius, Galactic Attack/Rayforce, and the Raiden 2 PC versions can be counted as shmups you can buy in stores. Problem is, they are too old to be found in stores now. Maybe Gametap can provide you with a legal emulation fix?

You will never, ever find those in stores. Unless the US is somehow the upside down version of europe, or unless the sun, moon and every star in the universe alighs properly just forget it altogether. There's plenty of other options tho, freeware PC games have some gems, and you're not the difficult to please type.

http://shootthecore.moonpod.com/database.php for the best freeware and demos of the pc shmup world.

I'd say, download every one of the "must have" games and you'll have plenty to work with.
