Is there any difference between the two ports of In the Hunt
The PSX and Saturn of course.
Which one plays better. I checked the board faqs and search, but I had no luck. Sorry if this has been asked 3000 times before.

Well, it's pretty much just the slowdown issue from what I've heard over the years.Ed Oscuro wrote:Odd, I had always assumed the Saturn version would be better, silly me. What problems do the Saturn version have? Interested to hear.
Can't say I recall hearing about a glitch tho, maybe Fighter17 can go into further detail about that.

I can't speak for the PSX version, but the Saturn one has SNES-on-a-bad-day levels of slowdown. Oddly, it seems like it gets better later in the game. Early on, it will slow to a crawl with almost no provocation.
For glitches, I believe it won't get past the developer logo in some model Saturns, but I am not sure on this point.

The japanese version of in the hunt will not boot in a US saturn... regardless of a converter ect. I don't know why but that's the only "glitch" I know of.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I think Gradius III on the SNES is comparable.D wrote:Even more, the Saturn version has the Saturn in slow down mode 99% of the time. If you actually play it that is, firing all over the place like a madman.
ITH for the SS is the (slowest) game ever on any sys. I bet no other game comes even close. And yes, that is a challenge!
That game runs in slowdown mode 99% of the time as well, though for me it makes the game somewhat enjoyable as I can just sit back and zone out whilst I play.

The slowdown is exaggerated because the sub moves slow regardless.

I can personally vouch for this one. I bought a Saturn rev a few years back that was still factory sealed and it would never boot past the Kokopeli logo. Exchanged it for a used copy and never had another issue.louisg wrote:

For the Saturn version, yes the booting issue is an issue. Also from some reports they were some graphicial glitiches as well.jiji wrote:The soundtrack is different between the two versions, too. The PSX version has the arcade soundtrack, and the Saturn version has an arranged one.
I played the Saturn version before and to me the game runs slower than the PCB version.
I own the PSX version and it runs around 90% of the PCB's speed (to me at least).
Personally I perfer the PSX port over the Saturn because of speed.
Be warned about one thing (in the US copies at least), In The Hunt for the PSX is rare (but doesn't cost too much) than the Saturn version.
For soundtracks in the PSX version you can pick arcade and arranged.

I own the Saturn version now, after playing ITH on MAME, I'd say there's noticable slowdown much of the time. it's not horrible.
I used to own the PS1 version in the late 90s, I don't really remember if there was significant slowdown but I'll trust everything I've read over the years about the PS1 version being a little better.
you'd think the Saturn version would be superior since Saturn is the more powerful sprite machine, but, it's all about the developer.

Had both, and the PCB. They all have slowdown, the PSX version is the best - and actually has slightly less slowdown than the PCB.

That's right. I remember the soundtrack switch in the PS1 version now. But isn't the PS1 versions's arranged soundtrack different from the Saturn version's soundtrack? I seem to remember liking the arranged PS1 soundtrack more.
Also, from GameFAQs:
Also, from GameFAQs:
I'll have to try this!Speed Up and Slow Down
While you're playing the game, press START to pause. To speed up the game slightly, unpause the game while pressing Triangle+R2. To slow down the game slightly, pause and then unpause while pressing Triangle+L2. You might have to do this a few times to get the full effect.
