Ikaruga MK2 model

Post by Gungriffon Geona »

having lost all data of my first model, and having told my buddy "sefirothDB" about it, he decided to remake the model. he did however take quite a bit of artistic freedom with the design, so now it looks rediculously awesome.

actually, I think this needs to be critiqued here rather than some site that's never heard of Ikaruga. so judge it as you will, and give some comments. yadda yadda yadda.

Make the front "wing" slightly thinner, and you have a winner.

Nice work! I don't know if I have any constructive criticism on it, but all my compliments. Makes me want to play the game...

which wing section? the top one or the front short piece? or do you mean that decorative piece that juts out like nuts?

well I could do that, but what would you use to make such a game? also, the model is 16k triangles, you'd have to reduce it by quite alot before it's usable.

noted, though I actually kind of like it thicker like that. it kind of makes it look like some sort of blunt weapon. eh, it could use a little thinning out I suppose though.

i think directx9 has some built in functions to simplify meshes, but yeah, 16k is a lot for a model that would take up such a small part of the screen.
cut scene a go-go!

I thought LOD meshes required you to simplify the model down yourself. it works by replacing the model with a less detailed one at a certain distance. you can do this several times too. however, I haven't heard anything about it automatically editing the mesh before.
I still wanna know what you would use to make such a game though.

That Ikaruga is so cute! It almost looks SD :D

Shoot, has anyone drawn an actual SD Ikaruga/Ginkei yet? *Picture idea!*

Imagine if Treasure did produce such a "SD" version of Ikaruga shmup game as a small gift to STG fans the world over -- would you get it?

I recall that SD Macross was never made into an anime series -- would've done well in it's native "land of the rising sun" -- SD Gundam, on the other hand, has done well..... ^_~
