I want to play my Taito Legends 2 via MAME

Post by Pixel_Outlaw »

Ok I was told some time ago that I could play the games from my PC title Taito Legends 2 via mame. I have purchased the legal disk and box and had them imported to the US. I have never used MAME but have recently downloaded it.

I wish to play these games in their original ratio's and un intrepolated.
It really bothers me that the images look rough even if you set smoothing to off. The sprites still seem to have shifting pixels in them. I would play in smooth mode but it's like having a seepy eye infection.

If anyone could help that would be great. :D

No, this game is not Space Invaders.

eh...

You could just play any of the games in the pack on MAME, by downloading the respective roms and MAME executable.
As far as running TL2 data in MAME sounds a bit like hogwash to me.

It's not. The PC versions of TL and TL2 have mame compatible roms in them.

1) Install TL2 on your PC.
2) Go to the folder TL2 is installed in, and open the "Roms" folder.
3) Right click on the game folder you want to put in MAME, and compress it to a zip file with a tool like Power Archiver, WinRar, etc.
4) Put the zip file in the "roms" folder in MAME.
5) Start MAME, and on the right side window, select "Available".
6) Click "view" along the top, and select "refresh".

You're game(s) should be selectable in the middle window. Just double click on the game name in the middle window, and you'll be golden. If MAME says files are missing from the ROM, then try an older version of MAME (like .66) from here.

The same can be done with the TL1 games, but you'll need an older version of MAME to play it, as they're older ROM sets (again, version .66 works).

I suppose I never noticed it since they aren't located directly on disc (uncompressed anyway). That, and they aren't archived as normally found with MAME roms. Not like there are many games you'd want to change over anyway for the correct aspect ratio anyway. Not to mention you could have just downloaded those roms in the first place.

EDIT: And if you got the roms within the last year they should be compatible with most if not all versions of MAME (at least ones released in the last 5 years no less).

Thanks for the info. I know some other official PC collections have roms you can use via emulators too. The 2600 roms with Atari 80 in 1 can be played with Stella. How do I access the roms for the Castlevania & Contra collection? I heard that it uses roms that can be used on emulators, but I couldn't find them on the disc. I'm going to try that zipping thing with the arcade games in Atari 80 in 1 to see if it works.

Ahhh yes that is another game. Mame Is more friendly for emulation. Why do companies do a sloppier job emulating games than mame does? I just want controll mapping with pixel perect scaling.

Ofcourse, I will play roms for the games I own. :D
