Gradius V didn't have moai: the thread

Post by Strider77 »

for all those who need to weep for this great loss......

be for always strong of great loss
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

They're just enjoying some R&R, and waiting for the clarion call of Gradius VI!

I've always loved the Moai. I have to visit Rapa Nui one day, just to be near them for a while. I think it'd be quite unsettling and sublime.

Naturally, I'd also take a bunch of pictures of myself mooning them.

I liked moais.

I need to sit down and 1CC Gradius and Gradius II sometime. :? I can always get to the boss rush but then I have a stupid death and I just don't ever pick it up again for months. Bleh.

Didn't play enough of Gradius V to notice the lack of moais though. So... *shrugs*

They had large stone hats too, but Konami never realized it.

@ Bal I can't help seeing them shooting their ring shapes.

I'll reveal you a secret. Gradius V was planned to have a moai head!

But Konami lost it, and it was later found under an office table in the basement of the Big Shell.

They wouldn't have fit in with the style of the game. No big loss.

But you'd think that if they could take out one tradition of Gradius, they'd actually include a good final boss.
I know you can always think of the boss before the brain and eyes as the final boss, but still.

www.thevideogamecritic.net 's review of Gradius V pretty much sums up how I feel about the game.

I don't care about the lack of Moai heads, but I've never had so much trouble seeing bullets in a shmup. I didn't care for the inertia in some parts of the game, either, and some of the weapon configs take forever to learn. Sure, the graphics looked great, but all the blur was a little too much in some spots, and it felt like you had to speed up your ship about five times before it was maneuverable

Gaiden beats the paints off V any day, IMO. V is my second least favorite Gradius game, after Gradius III Arcade.

Or twice.

And that videogame critic site. I'd be ashamed to align my opinion of any shooter with that guy's.

I agree with the inviso-bullets a nice pink moai ring shot would have solved that.... 8)

Never noticed about the moais. Probably never would have if you hadn't pointed it out.

So thanks a lot!

I coulda swore those weird rotating rocks in the 5th stage (the one where you shoot your way past tons and tons of metors/debris) or so were badly formed moai....
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

I HATE that stage with a passion. I've only beat that stage once ( yesterday). I plowed through all 6 of my continues I think.

I don't remember seeing any moai heads sadly. I wonder if the heads are any special inside joke, of if it was simply for fun. I mean some wackoes think that the moai heads were from alien contact....

There was a bossfight against a walking Moai head in Gradius Galaxies on GBA. But he wasn't rellay looking like this, so you might be a bit dissapointed.

I don't remember that. I thought it was 3 floating heads spinning like nuts. perhaps I'm mistaken.
