what's your opinion on Irem's arcade Dragon Breed?

Post by gigadrive32 »

for those of you that have played Irem's Dragon Breed extensively, and reached the end, or at least deep into the game, what is your opinion on it?

better than R-Type II ? better than X-Multiply ? better than R-Type Leo ? better than SNES R-Type III?

...of course Dragon Breed cannot be better than the original R-Type....

I've only reached the end of the second level myself.

i haven't played it for a while, i think i went to stage 5 or 6. it gets very hard, but not as hard as r-type 2. (because you have the curling dragon)
in my opinion it's the best irem shmup with r-type 1, i would put it above all the ones you mentionned

Dragon Breed is one of irem's best IMHO. Certainly above X-multiply, and probably above R-Type II as well. Plus it's just cooler riding a dragon!

Unless you own a PCB you want to get rid of. Then it sucks socks and I'll take it off your hands for proper disposal :)
Currently playing: Gunbird 2 PCB

Classic game, one of my all time favourites - the dragon really makes the game. I have a spare one of the PCBs (got two) but it's not cheap. Only ask if you have money to burn.

Awesome, awesome game. Has great gameplay mechanics not found in any other shmup before and since.

I would say that Dragon Breed, X-Multiply and R-Type Leo are all on the same level i.e. - thay are all just as good as each other.

R-Type II isn't quite as good, I'm not sure where I stand on Gallop. That one's a little odd.
