Is it even possible to finish a shmup in one credit?
Though there are alot of genres in arcades, most of them can be beaten in 1 credt. I did that once with a King of Fighters game. But for Shmups, this is not the case. Even the most balanced ones are like hella hard to beat with just one credit.
Is it an illusion or has someone here actually beaten a shmup with one credit?

There is a 5 page long thread of all the shmups people have 1cc'd in the high score forum.
http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=1944
A 1cc clear is a primary goal of most shmups, along with scoring.

You know, this poster makes a good point.
I think that even when I (possibly one of the worst shmuppers here) 1cc'd fire shark and batsugun, it was probably faked.
Obviously shmups are WAY TOO HARD to 1cc.
There are a lot of players we need to expose now. This is clearly a long held conspiracy that such games can be 1cc'd. I mean, how can you possibly dodge all those bullets and memorize all those patterns???
I am calling bullshit! No shooter has ever really been 1cc'd. Not without save states and other high-tech trickery (konami-code bullshit, etc.)

What he means is can you walk up to a shmup you've never played before, drop a quarter into it, and beat the game.
At least I HOPE that's what he means, otherwise he's a dumbass.
Even then the answer is yes. First time I played Eden's Edge I cleared it. Is it possible on something like DDP:DoJ? No idea. That would be sick as fuck if someone did it.

I am told that Galaga actually stops after Round 255. So it is technically possible to "finish" it on one credit. Other old games like Centipede and Space Invaders may very well keep going on forever until you run out of ships.Dale wrote:Galaga?Plasmo wrote:i cant think of a single shmup that isnt possible to finish on one credit

It'll keep going if the machine is set to the hardest difficulty.doctorx0079 wrote:I am told that Galaga actually stops after Round 255. So it is technically possible to "finish" it on one credit. All the high scores are LIES!
At least they are after I've had this 20%+ dogfishhead brew. Damn, finishing level 1 is neigh impossible after that (and spelling too, wtf!)

I agree with Rob there, you also have shown a pretty offensive attitude in many other threads you contributed. Since we'd like to have a friendly community here I'd like to ask you to calm a bit down as well. I don't want to play forum-police. I just think the way you are expressing yourself is often pretty offensive and if you continue like this you'd get banned sooner or later anyway. So, I am really just trying to make you realize that people you are pretty offensive for no reason. Cheer up.

That better be the magical quarter of bullet-dodging fortitude and digital destruction to aid your curiosity of another world where everything is to be destroyed by your hands to achieve freedom to the real world.

Sure, the first time I've played Soul Calibur II arcade cabinet at my local movie theater and beat the game on just one credit -- was it pure "lady luck" or just pure random button mashing that allowed me to beat it? ^_~
And I've beaten the Atari Games PCB of Klax on just one credit back in May of 1994...it's possible but no two game of Klax are the same due the CPU throwing random generated colored tiles at you -- you have to make do with what tiles are given to you -- it really is up to you as to how to decide how to cash in the "big points" doing multiple Klax chains or just the absolute minimum to finish such a given Klax wave. Any ace Klax player already knows that..... ^_~
Sure, I've 1'CCed many gaming sessions of Data East's Heavy Barrel arcade cabinet back in late 1980's and into the early 1990's with an average score of 1,450,000 points (assuming you know to assemble the "Heavy Barrel" weapon on your way to the last end-stage boss which doesn't stand a chance with that particular super weapon, of course). ^_~

I remember thinking bullet hell shooters were pretty impossible until I played for months. It's like people who've been watching superplays for years can't remember what it was like to discover a Psikyo, Raizing, etc. game for the first time. Going from Space Megaforce and Thunder Force III, basically impossible. Seems like a perfectly innocent question, even if there's a high score board right around the corner.

These are games you practice at.
They will kick you in the balls and throw you through a glass window and continue to do so untill you get "good" at them.
They are not interactive movies made around the reflexes of the mentally challanged or average 12 year old.
A shmup should be breaking your arm rather than holding your hand.

Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.
