defective joystick?

hey guys, i'm modding my Hori T5 joystick to work on a supergun with neo geo pin-outs and i put in a sanwa, but i can only get up-left and down-left to register. i've checked and rechecked everything many times, but still only get 2 directions. what are the odds that it's just a bad stick? has anyone heard of this before?

Up, down, left, and right all connect to separate switches. If two directions work at once... then both of those switches are working. Chances are you got some wiring crossed. Double check your connections and pinout.
