Which of these DC games are a must have?
Under Defeat, Trigger Heart Exelica, or Radirgy?
I already know I'm getting Karasu (or Karous to some,) but I need to know which of those 3 would seem the best to someone who loves Mushihimesama more than anything else (and also Giga Wing.)
EDIT: Which is better than the other, if anything?

I have played little of Triggerheart so I can't really comment on that. I loved Radilgy, much more so than Under Defeat, mostly because I'm not a massive fan of old-school shmups like UD. However, having said that, UD is still a quality shmup, and if you are going to get Karous anyway then it's own similarities to Radilgy would suggest UD>>Radilgy. If that makes any sense.
EDIT :
Trizeal plays nothing like GW? If anything, either MM or Radilgy would be closest to Gigawing in my experience.Reluctant Hero wrote:I'd also recommend Trizeal if you like "Giga Wng style game play"

Under Defeat is one of the best on the system.... might even be my favorite on the system. It doesn't have a complex scoring system, but the fun factor is amazing and the game keeps your adrenaline pumping throughout.

We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.

Under Defeat..... no question for me. Looks like a real game versus a fan made game.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

They all have their pros and cons. I haven't played THE yet, but Radirgy and Under Defeat are about on the same level for me, just... Totally different =P They rank around #5 and #6 on my favorite DC shooters (if you include Bangai-O). They're very solid games, but I don't see myself attempting high scores in either.

I haven't played Trigger Heart, but between Radirgy and Under Defeat I would choose Radirgy hands-down.
Under Defeat looks cool, and the level design is pretty decent but it is one of those games where the gameplay gets in your way. I don't like how the chopper moves at all, or how you have to lock your position with the fire button. Of all of the genres of games, the last one where you want gameplay to be a hinderance is in a shmup. Besides that, Under Defeat is somewhat uninspiring artistically and environmentally.
Radirgy on the other hand is just a good ol shmup that kind of pays homage to many of the other great shooters. The cel shading is unique and fresh. I just like it better.

If you have ever played Zero Gunner 2, this must be a relief, but I hear what you are saying. too often games get ruined by new/original gimmicks. fortunatly I was already used to controlling the UD ship because the helicopter in the Sonic Wings series behaves exactly the same way. Perhaps it would have been better if you could only shoot straight and the graphics do look like they belong in a pc game, but I still love it. Attention to detail is incredible and I like the music. Never understood why so many complained about that. Blowing up battleships; priceless. 1st boss is a little weak though. He should've been bigger and just simply adjust the paterns a bit, done.ktownhero wrote:Under Defeat looks cool, and the level design is pretty decent but it is one of those games where the gameplay gets in your way. You don't have to fire to the sides if you don't want to.... I had no problems with that though at all. I'd say zero gunner 2 was more complicated tham UD, not that i had a problem with either one.

I dunno, I actually found ZG2's system to be 100% intuitive. I just picked up and played. I'm not saying I struggle with UD's system, but it just doesn't *feel* right.Strider77 wrote:You don't have to fire to the sides if you don't want to.... I had no problems with that though at all. I haven't played Exelica yet, but I should have it soon...I do have Radirgy and Under Defeat, though, and for the most part like (though not love) both, though for different reasons, almost opposite ends of the spectrum really. UD doesn't do anything particularly new (or complex) in terms of gameplay, but the presentation's great (imo screenshots don't do it much justice, seeing it firsthand is a whole other ballgame), and otherwise it's pretty solid, if simple. Radirgy, on the other hand, is a decidedly unusual one...the quirky graphics (I don't mind them, but don't care for them too much either) and sound (which I like a bit better) hardly prepare you for the unusual nature of playing for score: shooting is pretty much secondary to utilizing your barrier, shield, and sword. You can also play it "traditionally" and just shoot everything, but you miss out on a lot that way.
As I said, I'm not mad about either, but I think both are definitely worth at least a try by shmuppers. If you really want something for the DC you might want to try to snag UD, since it's unlikely to be ported anyplace else (and, if it turns out like Border Down did, will get expensive before long): Radirgy, as others have mentioned, has appeared on other systems and is on its way to the US.
