Why, which shooters have you been playing? Stuff like Dodonpachi Daioujou and Battle Garegga?
You know, there are several easier shoot 'em ups that everyone should be able to 1cc. For instance Magical Chase [PCE], Harmful Park [PS1], Gaia Seed [PS1], Gatchaman the Shooting [PS1], some of the Compile shmups like Sylphia [PCE] and Super Aleste (aka Space Megaforce) [SNES]. And those are just the first that come to mind.

Just.. play for fun. Gaming isn't meant to be a chore which you feel obligated to do until you've reached a goal.
As long as you're having fun (am I really dishing out the "games are fun" thing here? I think I am.) with what you're playing, who cares? You get better the more you play regardless of whether it's concentrated gaming or just random. If you're after the 1cc specifically, just stick to a single shooter and nothing else. Although I don't really see much fun in doing that.
I've 1cc'd two shooters, but I couldn't care less. It's just some bragging rights.

Battle Bakraid. Ignore scoring and just go for the clear. You should pick up enough points to get an extend or two and normal course is pretty easy. It was my first 1cc followed shortly thereafter by a normal Batrider clear. Both games are about the same as far as difficulty goes.
Feedback will set you free.

even if you try a harder game: the important thing is to focus on just one game and to memorize the stage layout, patterns etc.
Reactions, instincts and such things will make just about 20% of your success, it's much more important to know what to do.
This takes discipline and is not always pure "fun", but much more rewarding in the long term.

If I can go through Ikaruga up to Chapter 4 without continuing....and I can dot-eat Stage 3's boss....then you can too.
And I consider myself crap at said game.

The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

I was going to pose the same question. Try some easier shmups. A couple examples I can think of are Legendary Wings (NES) and the Sega CD version of Lords of Thunder. Those were 2 relatively easy 1CC for me.Ceph wrote:Why, which shooters have you been playing? Stuff like Dodonpachi Daioujou and Battle Garegga?

Over spring break, if I don't 1cc ESPGaluda I won't be able to look at myself in the mirror. Haha, not really but I have been so close latley, but then these past weeks I have had so much school work that I haven't found time to play. So spring break will be my chance to finnally 1cc a game.
What are you trying to tell me, that I can dodge bullets?

There's always one arrogant ass out there that's more elite than thou, no matter what you accomplish. In my opinion, sticking to your personal goals is far more fun than trying to impress any group. While I'm a bit new to shmups, I have experience with fighters and know the way those cliques largely work: it's rarely a matter of outplaying your fellow player, but outdouching them with inane and often irrelivant data just to prove how hardcore you are. All bark and no bite, so to speak.
So, I guess in other words: who cares how you measure up to the pack? You'll have so much more fun if you never concern yourself with it. You may even come to dislike the genre if you do concern yourself with it. I certainly know that hanging around Shoryuken turned me off from fighters for a while.

I find that isn't the case here at all. I've never seen any "look at me, I'm better than you" posts in the hi score section. Ask an obvious question in the hi score or strategy threads and all you get is help from other players - even if its been asked a shed load before.futurebiblehero wrote:There's always one arrogant ass out there that's more elite than thou, no matter what you accomplish. Although, ask an obvious question in shmupschat and you get flamed to hell and back...

The shmups online community is completely different from let's say, the bemani score community or the srk community.futurebiblehero wrote:There's always one arrogant ass out there that's more elite than thou, no matter what you accomplish.
