Game Identification

Post by MasterDNA »

Orientation: Horizontal
System: Arcade

Basically, you have a main ship and can have up to four or five satellite ships that follow your path and shoot the same shots as you do.

Standout features:
- Enemies shoot large, polygonic bullets (I think mostly red colored and square shaped)
- Your shots have several levels of power-up. Each level has a different and strange graphic. It often looks like (and it WAS, but I forget which exactly) that you’re shooting little animals and vegetables.
- One of the bosses is a ground boss. It’s a train that you must beat segment by segment. The first smokestack on the train fires a watermelon (I think) and it explodes into 8 bullets released in 8 polar directions.
- I think the pilot is visible

The game can probably be labeled “cute” as well.

Any effort would be appreciated. Thanks =)

Hacha Mecha Fighter (1991, NMK)?
MAME-wise, it suffers from unemulated protection. Your best bet for now would be to look at the screenshots on this flyer http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=flyer ... 55&image=2

On the previous forums, someone (MrLonghair?) made a video of the first stage. I saved it, but can't remember where I placed it. I'll look around for it if you want it.

edit: File found, 7.54MB in size.

Ahh, that's it! Thank you much 8)

And thanks Neon for the effort. When I first saw Polystars's description (in the shmups archive) I thought that was it too but turns out that it wasn't.

Hmm, here's one that's not a shmup, but I couldn't get ahold of what it was anywhere else so it'd be awesome if somone here knew.

This was so long ago that I played this I don't remember the name. The game was basically an action/platform type where at the beginning you can choose one of 16 (or something like a 4x4 box) enemies that you would want to face first. Each enemy had either 1 star, 2 stars, or 3 stars for their difficulty rating. In the game, you're this guy with a gun and can shoot normal shots or big blue shots (called moon shots I think) by using a hadoken motion. You can also do down kicks and up kicks while jumping. Of the enemies I remember all I can remember is two bald guys with weapons, this witch who was dressed in purple, and a huge centipede guy who can protect his head (weak spot) with his body and you had to moon shot to defeat him.

Additional details:
- Levels are in enclosed and platformed battle arenas.
- The purple witch Fires a charged sphere.
- The game is anime-ish.
- The character you use has a yellow cape (or some other slight hint of yellow)
- The gun's regular shots are yellow, the moon shots are blue and larger
- The game was most likely made between 1989 and 1995

Very fun game and technically you DO shoot most of the time

I'm happy I could help.

I do not know your next game. You might want to try the Fun/Fluff board on the MAME forums:

If anyone is interested in seeing some footage of Hacha Mecha Fighter, please check the FeatheredWings.net Tracker.
(This is the video I hinted at above.)

Is Polystars available on any format other than a PCB?
As a Konami panty-sniffer, I must have this game, but my appartment prevents me from investing in cabs. That asides, I've got practically every home system ever hooked up to various Tvs and investing in cabs also would be overkill imo.

No, it's arcade-only.

Actually it comes on a CD-Rom, and you also need an M2 system hardware to play it.

BTW, the M2 was the failed successor hardware of the 3DO. There are prototypes of the console, but in the end it was only ever used as an arcade hardware.

How about getting a supergun? Takes up a lot less space than a cab, and is more flexible and cheaper, too. ^^
