I was at home working on my game projects. Feeling kinda bored about it turn on the TV and put on PBS and there was a WWII documentary. For some reason they been airing alot of them lately. Actually there was two that night. One about a ship called the Yamato and another about D-Day. It showed ships blowing up stuff, shooting soldiers, bombing, and all that stuff you would see in a war. Man it was great stuff.
So later I went to play a shmup and it actually became more fun for some reason, and I wasn't even playing a WWII shmup, I was playing Hot Dog Storm on a emulator.
I don't know why but maybe knowing how the airplanes shoot enemies, acrobat through the sky, and drop bombs makes the gaming experience more real and fun cuz you get a feeling how it feels like. That's my guess though.
Anyone ever had this experience?
WWII docementaries may make shmups more fun

I had watched History Channel on WWII docs before buying and playing Strikers 1945 the first time. It wasn't a rush of history for me or anything with my plane spewing out purple bullets, but it made that boss 2nd form transformation into the impossible that much more entertaining. It was probably funniest because my dad was watching.

I don't usually have any fascists around while playing, but I'll give it a try if I get the chance. I suppose screaming at a photo of Mussolini wouldn't have the same effect?SamIAm wrote:A friend once suggested that any shmup, particularly WWII shmups, could be made more fun by screaming curses at fascists while playing.
