How many versions of Shienryu

Post by lawnspic »

I know of

Simple 2000 Series 2-in-1 Vol. 5: The Shooting & The Helicopter

Simple 2000 Series Vol. 37: The Shooting: Double Shienryu

Is there another, was it released as a stand alone title
Iron Maiden: "It was dead, but alive at the same time."

It was released on the Saturn in Japan and on PS1 in (I think) all 3 regions as "Geki-Oh: Shooting King." Search around and there are at least a handful of threads discussing the differences between them.

Nope, the only PS2 releases it got were on the two "Double Shienryu" packs you listed.

In Europe the Shienryu PS2 Double Pack was released as "Steel Dragon EX", so there's 3 versions.

I got Double Shienryu about 6 months back, and completely forgot about the original Shienryu being included! I've just fallen in love with that game all over again.

Got to finally play it on the candy cab in proper low-res tate (had to dig up one of the other threads explaining how to get to the options menu). Very sexy. I was pretty close to buying this from Excellent on ST-V, but I think I'll save my bucks now.

Only bummer is my cabinet doesn't have "select" wired to anything, so I need to plug in a gamepad to give myself credits. Time to wire in a coin button!

The Gekioh: Shooting King US release has some cool extra features like a bunch of extra modes (including a game that I'm guessing is supposed to be like a shmup that would play on the PocketStation, though you can play it on the screen via the game disc. It's not that fun, but some of the extra modes are quite interesting.

Does this US release have the same amount of slowdown that the JP PS1 release has? Because I bought that one a while back and couldn't stand the slowdown.

The US release does have slowdown, though I haven't played the JP version to compare. If I had to guess, though, I would assume that they'd be more or less the same in that area.
