I don't know much about it, but for the last week or more I have been in a mega man mood. So in your humble opinion, any opinion please, is it worth buying? Mega Man X8 that is.

Great game. A bit on the easy side but it's far better than X7 with its 3D shooting stages.

I dunno, there's something I don't like about having to mix the MMX gameplay with 3d backgrounds/elements/etc. That's why I haven't played any other Megaman X game after X6, but if X8 is as good as some people may say, then I guess I'll give it a shot.

I bought this game the other day after seeing this thread. I had almost given up on the X series after playing the horrible X7. But I'm so glad I gave it another shot.

The game is very slick. Controls are reminiscent of X1-X6, very smooth, fast, and responsive. No more dumb 3D areas, except for the areas when you're riding on a vehicle... And even then it's much more fun than any of the 3D areas in X7. The difficulty has been ramped up. I know one of you said it was on the easy side... Maybe I just suck but this game kicks my ass a lot. But I'm getting better... It's been a while since I've played an X game so I gotta get back into the groove.

Also, the graphics look very nice and the music is pure quality! Highly recommended! If you have any questions about it before you buy let me know.

Megaman X6 left a bad taste in my mouth becuase of the terrible, but aptly named Nightmare system and some poorly designed levels. Is the level design of X8 a step up from X6?

I definitly have to say that the level design in X8 is far superior to X6. Believe me, I was nervous about X8 after playing X6, I even skipped over X7 completely. X8 takes X6 and blows it completely out of the water. The only things I didn't like were the two rail shooting levels.

The one rail shooting stages got kinda frustrating to me. But I still thought they were kinda cool. But I will say, I liked Avalanche Yeti's rail shooting stage way more than Gigavolt Man-O-War... >_<

The forest stage is awesome by the way. I love how the music changes when you hop into the ride armor. And if you know the routes, you can take the armor through most of the level!

I got the game yesterday for 20 at Gamestop. You may want to take a look at this game, folks. It could have been better if they polished the rough edges (crippling slow-mo at places, add a few missing graphics like there's no smoke when sliding, etc) and added a couple of minibosses (entering a locked-room to fight hordes of normal enemies is not kosher imo). However, it's worth it for 20. It's the best MM in a long while.

I've played more of this game today (hard difficulty). I'm really liking it because it hands my a** to me. Of course, I haven't upgraded my life bar or used items. I haven't beaten any boss yet .

Yeah, it's a huge step up from X7. It's actually closer to the faster pacing of the first three X games on the SNES, which is a major plus. You may not like the rail-shooter stages (they're okay at best, but you should definitely pick it up if you're a Mega Man fan.

Don't even bother with anything lower than Hard difficulty... there really isn't much of a point to, you'll get used to the difficulty eventually, if you find it hard.

You can actually take it all the way to the boss, if you can get it that far.

Spoilers. I guess:

One of the coolest things you can do in the ride armor is fight Vile. You're practically invincible, and you can stun him with the ion shot. It's an awesome way to get get revenge for X1. Heh, giving him a taste of his own medicine. ;D

I beat two bosses now. The difficulty seems uneven because Optic Sunflower killed me like a dozen times while the panda and the trilobite barely made me break a sweat. Anyone tried this with Progressive Scan yet?

Oh yeah, is it just me or are the boss names really fruity in this game?

Just bought this at TRU the other day for $20. I also saw Onimusha 3 for $15, shoulda got that instead :(

Wow, huge wtf goes out to everyone praising the bejeezus out of this game (including magazines and gaming sites).

It is not a huge step forward in the X series -- no, not even a baby step forward. Sure, the cutscene graphics have improved (as has the voice acting, yay!), but other than that...this game is on par with X7. The in-game graphics themselves suck, and these god-awful 3D segments are even worse than the 3D parts in X7 (the Man-O-War stage, flying around the city, is particularly horrid).

This game is not on par with any X game before, nor above it. Hell, I might even go as far to say that there are some levels I enjoy more in X7 than this game.

Heh, to each his own I guess. Not everyone is going to enjoy this game. I was always sure there were people who liked X7 a lot yet it's not my cup of tea. So the same goes for you not liking X8 but I and a lot of other people think it's an awesome game. Have you played all the X games before? I'm just curious thats all.

Ah, c'mon, Lonesage. Give it an opportunity, and you'll probably like it. One thing you must not do is judge the game by the 3D levels. Also, play the game the hardcore way: hard difficulty, no life enhancements, use weapons only the second time you fight the bosses. I have gotten my ass whupped a thousand times this way, and I still can't beat the last guy.

Edit: Oni 3 isn't particularly great either.

PaladinCecil: I've played every X game except for X2; maybe my 2D MM fanboyism clouds my judgment, but I thoroughly enjoyed even X6 (despite the difficulty being pussified). X7 was one inch closer to being less than mediocre, but even then I had a little fun. X8 is...I dunno. It's just missing that spark.

UFO: No matter how hard the 3D levels suck, the 2D levels pretty much suck compared to many other X games :( It's just a huge letdown for me. I may try it out on Hard difficulty.

I think I'll just go back to playing the only device that still pumps out new, quality Mega Man games, the GBA.

It's all practice and memorization. Try Mega Man 5 if you haven't already. It's by far the easiest MM game (not including the handhelds).
