I'm (for now, at least) hosting the playable demo which was released in C72.

http://www.ghegs.com/(SITER_SKAIN)(ALLT ... n+cue).rar

EDIT: Okay, so phpbb doesn't like filename. Just copy/paste it.

If anybody has a good, valid reason as to why it shouldn't be spread, let me know.

F4 for fullscreen. Hold button 1 for rapid fire, tap button 2 for sword attack. Push down button 1 and hold down button 2 for homing missiles, push down button 2 and hold down button 1 for huge-ass laser.

Yeah, the photo in this thread is Kamui, not the new game.

Uhm, speaking about design, this game seems to be a great Rayforce saga tribute...

Dear God, the sword is so powerful. It can cancel bullets out and does major damage to bosses (possibly more than the laser ) When the full version comes out people will do sword-only replays a la Radiant Silvergun where they just zip in to range and slash away.

The homing lasers are powerful too. They can kill mid-sized enemies fast.

The only concerns I have:

-The powerup icon is just a glowing orb
-They recycled the boss theme from Kamui (which isn't so bad because this is technically a spiritual sequel)

All in all, a good game and it will be awesome when the full version gets released. Then maybe they will make a full version of Reflex?

I really like this game. The sword might be a bit overpowered, but I really like the gameplay system, and this could be a worthy successor to Kamui.

I just cleared the trial, sadly it's only two stages long. I can one-life the first stage, but the second stage can be pretty difficult.

Definitely a great game in the making. The scoring seems fun, killing certain enemies fast (like the stage 1 midboss) brings out more enemies to destroy, and there's some Donpachi-like chaining going on. Maybe there's still something more in there, my best score is a bit over 2 million (didn't even see the final boss on the run), while my all-clear score was 1,8 million.

The different weapons are fun, though I use the missiles and laser very rarely. Mostly I just slash through the bigger enemies and shoot the popcorn enemies with the standard weapon. Hopefully there'll be sections where the other weapons can get their moment to shine.

The second stage has some odd design decisions I'm hoping they'll change for the final product. Near the end of it it's very easy to ram into the space station and the final boss itself feels unfair, though I did beat it the first time I reached it.

But yeah, very much looking forward to the finished game.

The Comiket releases are 3 stage demos, I think the full game will have at least 5, as in the original Alltynex.

This new demo is released to the public and is only level 1.

You can overpower everything with the sword if you want, but if you don't like that, just play the game using normal front shot, it would make it much harder.

I tried playing just using the normal shot and it was frustratingly difficult. I had trouble killing anything except the popcorn enemies. You need to use that sword .. lol

A few other issues .. the power-up orb is very bright and looks alot like an enemy shot. Also it just seems to drop out of nowhere. Often I would simply miss or avoid it, thinking it was another enemy shot. At one point, a power-up orb dropped right in the path of the giant battleship lasers, and picking it up without getting fried would be difficult at best.

Your secondary lasers just randomly fly off and hit stuff, which I felt completely assed up the coolest thing about Raystorm, which was the lock-on system. I don't care if they ripped that off, it would have been better than what they replaced it with. Also you can't fire your primary weapon while your lasers are flying around, so you pretty much gimp yourself even using the lasers. And yes, the sword is uber overpowered.

The constant camera switches/mini cutscenes were very distracting and happened way too often. I felt like I was playing Final Fantasy the shmup. The cuts during the level 1 boss were paticuarly annoying.

Obviously this is a matter of taste, but the ship's hit area is the entire ship, making it impossible to do anything but go all the way around bullets. I don't mind a big hit area, but when it covers the entire ship, it's a bit much.

Oh well, not like the developer will end up reading this. :P

Scoring is tied to the normal shot and the lasers. Simple chaining. Also the lasers can hit multiple targets with a single shot. Since you can't kill the large enemies with your front shot or the homing lasers fast enough to chain, you need the sword to dispatch them quickly. So, start off with normal shot, fire a homing laser or two off into the popcorn crowd when a large enemy appears, take it out with the sword, go back to the front shot, watch the 25600pt bonuses rack up.

Also it's a really close remake of 1996's Alltynex for the FM Towns, which is where most of the more questionable design cues are coming from.

Fast bullets. Can't be bad.

I have a few gripes though:
You shouldn't have to watch that first sequence all over again every time you start a new game.

In the first part, some of the bigger enemies obscure the view for a brief time.

Changes happen to often, interrupting the flow of the game.

The main weapon both looks and feels anemic. I guess they are forcing the player to use the sword but there must be a way to balance it a little better. What could be worse in a shmup than an underpowered main weapon? *

Popcorn enemies takes to long to dispose of.

* the answer is gravity
It is powerup of laser.

I do that for one of the stage 1 chains, and it's also a good idea on stage 3 boss.

Just gave the latest demo (first level only) a spin. I like the feel of it so far... at first I was worried about the slashing feeling goofy (never been a fan of the "ships with swords" thing), but I actually like it. Point-blank slashing feels balanced enough by the bullet speed, which I'm relieved to see isn't as lethargic as Kamui's on defaults.

I do agree that some of the camera cuts are just annoying, and sometimes entirely pointless (as in the first boss' repeated laser blast scene).

I'm not quite sure what you mean by the entire ship, but from what I just saw, only the center of the ship counts. I intentionally went through some gaps that saw bullets pass straight through the nose, wings and rear section of the ship with no trouble whatsoever. It's certainly not the entire ship in the sense of the original Raiden, where a bullet touching your ship's outline is fatal. It's much closer to Kamui than that.

Looks good so far. I feel the sword weapon is a bit more balanced now. You have to build up a combo meter with the laser missiles and regular shot so you can't stay with the sword all the time. The second boss has some reminiscences (sp?) of Radiant Silvergun... and I would've loved to see how stage 3 looks now with that giant tank and all.

But, is it me, or somewhat the 1st stage's BGM has a lower quality than the earlier demo? :|

Yeah, its only two more levels after the tank level from the demo, but overall it's another winner from Siter Skain.

The last two bosses are pretty cool, and the full game has achievements and an alternate weapon mode where the laser only shoots forward and the sword makes the ship turn....
