Can anyone help me determine the resolution this television (4 years old) displays? I have looked online and in the owners manual, and cannot figure this out.
My background is I am 39 and got back into video games (only shmups) about 8-9 months ago. I have been primarily exploring the PSX, Saturn Japan, and US-PS2 shooters, esp. the Raiden, Gradius and R-Type series. These are all connected via s-video to the above TV. (It has a component RGB input, but I have not ordered the cables for this yet.) I have a Dreamcast, but have not played around with it yet.
My question is whether I should order an older low-res console (such as a GVM-2020, PVM 1910, or Mitsubishi Megaview), or if this will make little difference. I asked something similar 8 months ago, but decided to play more games and see what systems/games I really liked, before getting back into the hardware question. Thank-you for your help, this forum has been a great resource.

thc - Thank-you. Yes, I am aware of that, I just haven't gotten around to it. The s-video connection is right in the front of the Panny, and the component is in the back requiring I move the big heavy thing every time away from the wall, and since I was trying out many different consoles and games each night as I got back into video games, I just didn't bother for ergonomic reasons. I will get component once I settle down to a particular console or game for a while. I know they are on ebay all the time.
I was primarily concerned about compatibility at 15khz, the output of (most of) the consoles. Something I read on the web seemed to indicate that the Panny I already have does not need to convert a 15khz signal, and accepts it as a native signal with no upconversion, but that doesn't seem likely to be correct to me. My main question is really about the Panny's native resolution and whether I should get an older 15khz monitor or tv, and how much difference it would make in terms of either lag or video quality.

The Sony RGB monitors that you've listed are great choices for analog RGB input -- you'd just have to make a custom input interface to get the analog RGB input from your consoles and volia, you're in business... ^_~Jeffrey wrote:Can anyone help me determine the resolution this television (4 years old) displays? The smallest Sony produced analog RGB monitor ever made is the 9" CPD-9000 series -- super razor sharp graphics when playing arcade Jamma PCBs games on it in true 15.75 kHz horizontal sync rate mode (although some some arcade Jamma PCBs such as the Seibu Kaihatsu & Toaplan produced ones don't fare well with it though). ^_~
A Mitsubishi DiamondScan monitor in 15kHz or 31 kHz mode is pure heaven for the $$$ spent on one...I played the Sega Naomi version of Super Monkey Ball on such 32" inch Mitsubishi DiamondScan analog RGB monitor and it was pure heaven indeed! ^_~
