Rayforce F3 Cart

Post by oxtsu »

Scoop:

http://www.ngy.1st.ne.jp/~momochi/untiku/rayf.htm

There was some question as to whether or not this existed.
Indeed it does, but only as a mod, not actually put out by Taito.

Possibly because Rayforce was one of the early titles on F3 system -- it looks like the 'cart' direction wasn't fully planned, etc, in the beginning.

Just speculation on my part. :)

Obviously, but why mod the PCB? :?

Sorry, your question wasn't "obvious" to me. But I'm no F3 aficionado, just passing along.

People love Rayforce (masterpiece), and modders do crazy/challenging shit for fun. The cool factor of F3 cart versus everyday PCB. That's my guess as to why.

Yeah, I know, it was kind of a rethorical question. I'm just amazed at what fanatics do with their money and free-time. :P

Why...why??

It looks like a F3 cart was sac'd (hopefully not EAR), and the RayForce board had its chips removed. That last part should be reversible if the chips were just seated, not soldered. Still...

The F3 board doesn't even really lend convenience, unless you've got a supergun or cabinet dedicated to F3 only (which, admittedly, some probably do).

F3 non-cart game PCBs (like Grid Seeker which I've got) are fairly huge, even compared to the F3 carts. There's another part of the convenience- some would likely rather reach for a PS1 sized F3 cart than a XXL sized PCB.

If I had to sac an F3 cart for this, it would probably be one of the Puzzle Bobble series or a Kirameki Star Road (the latter since this one is not playable by those who don't know Japanese).
Kinect? KIN NOT.
