From insertcredit:
http://www.s-f.co.jp/soft/ps2/kikikaikai/index.htm
Apparantly the game might be controlled just like Smash tv?
two PS2 mushrooms have to be used?
2D graphics wow great news.
The insertcredit guy is dissappointed he can't use his arcade stick?

Awesome - Starfish are the same guys that made the excellent GBA Koutetsu remake, right?

I don't know how Recap missed it, but the person that first made note of Kiki Kaikai 2 also stated that Shin Chuuka Taisen (Cloudmaster on the SMS) will be released on the same day, also for the PS2.

Might as well post this here from the other thread.
Plenty of screenshots at Watch Impress, here:

Looks very nice. Haven't found much for Shin Chuka Taisen yet.

Yep, the memories come flooding back...the cute l'il ghosts with the triangle thingies on their heads...the hopping umbrella guys...the gate you have to shoot open...the rock-spitting guy...and, of course, the slab enemies that try to fall on top of you. Who knows who else'll be back...I also wonder what sort of "team" system they'll have this time, the "traditional" 2-player thing of the first SNES game, or the weird "immortal CPU character who explodes when you throw him" thing from the second? or something completely new?

Always good to see an "old-fashioned" game in the works, I hope it turns out well...though am I the only one who thinks that the way they drew Pocky in this makes her look like something out of a dating sim?

This is some very good news indeed. The original KiKi KaiKai arcade game, featured on Taito Memories Vol. 1, is one of the games I play the most on that compilation. I also enjoy the Pocky & Rocky 2 SNES game Natsume developed. Sadly, I've never played the first Pocky & Rocky on the SNES. Was that one essentialy just a port of the original arcade game?

Nope, it's a ways different from Kiki Kaikai.

I'll definetly be pre-ordering this one, hopefully Taito (or whoever, aren't they still publishing it?) will include a nice bonus - maybe a Kiki Kaikai retroactive? It'll be the 21st anniversery after all! :P

I owned Pocky and Rocky 1 and 2 on SNES. I'm keen as mustard to get this new one. I'll be pre-ordering the moment it appears.

I see from the HG101 there was also a GBA Kiki Kaikai game. I'll have to track that down tool.

Bah, where is this game already! Starfish's site has some vague release info 'sometime in the season,' and no news of it at all! Please don't tell me its going to be cancelled!

I almost forgot about this! Looking forward to this as well.

On one of those pages, there's a shot of Chiyoru's (or whatever the name is) sprite with the clothes falling off?

edit: OK, Sayo is the name?

I must have missed that one...in any event, in the second Pocky and Rocky game on the SNES, Pocky/Sayo/whoever was able to take 2 hits at the start: the first hit would knock off her shrine maiden outfit and leave her in a t-shirt and shorts, and the second one would do her in. Maybe what you saw was the return of that "system?"

I have never understood the meaning behind those sticks with the papers attached to them. Are they some kind of religious tool?

No, this game is not Space Invaders.

It is a little known secret that all Japanese women are required by law to carry them at all times.

FYI, game pushed back to Summer, according to Star Fish's website.

I thought it was that they had to carry an oversized mallet which can be pulled out from behind their backs at will to smack any dude who says something smart-aleckey.

That one too! I hear the green hair laws were recently repealed. but they most have at least 3 items of "kawaii" to prevent being stripped of citizenship.

Hope they ain't going to cancel it. Looks pretty nice from the screens, still I'd like to see it in motion to get a slight impression on how the game plays. The graphics seem pretty detailed, hope it won't be too easy as P&R2 on the SNES was, which still was a good game. About the character art, it didn't look much like kiki kai kai at first. Not that it means they are bad, which I don't think is the case. Just pretty different.

Oh, and I also noticed that halfnaked Sayo on that one screenshot. Seems like a dying animation after she got sliced. So only her costume got sliced open or something. Seems like this game will have a lot of varied animations, that would be really nice.

Interesting, I wonder if the GBA one is just a port of the SNES original?

At any rate, it looks fantastic; love the graphical style! :D

Neither does this one which I wrote. Good luck finding it. Well... the Japanese one anyway. Why anyone would buy a US GBA game w/ those ass ugly boxes is beyond me.

Bah, who needs a box when it's a shooter like that? At any rate, thanks for the info! :D
