Manic Shooter with plans for shareware needs 2D Artist.

Post by GroZZleR »

Hey all,

Preamble
Jet Jockey (working title) is a manic shooter I'm working on with plans to submit to the GameDev.net 4 Elements contest, and with good reception, push on to shareware development.

The objective right now is to create a 2 or 3 level "complete" demo for the contest (and most likely other contests as well) and gauge public reaction before "finishing" the game and pushing it out onto the shareware scene.

Your Job
The 2D artist(s) will be responsible for createing the ships, level backgrounds and menues. Any and all designs will be your own creation, you have full creative freedom as an artist. The level backgrounds are going to be completely custom images, not tiles. The level of detail available will be obscene.

The direction of the art for the game is an over-the-top, flashy, eye-candy visual experience. We're talking shader-enhanced shockwaves, explosions and insane amounts of particles. Scene post-processing is also going to make an appearance (think dynamic greyscale, flashbang effects, etc.).

We're pushing a 3D accelerator to its limits with 2D artwork. That's the objective.

The Engine
The engine we'll be using for the project is a homebrew creation of mine dubbed GroZ2D. It's a fully qualified 2D with 3D engine complete with shader support. It's highly extensible and could easily be used for other projects if this one goes well.

Here's a picture of the shader rendering (not that impressive as a static image):

The engine's effect framework was approved to be featured in the upcoming ShaderX5 book by the author but was sadly cut by the editors due to the direction the book was taking from the other approved authors. So you know this is the real deal.

If you're interested, I'd love to see some samples. I can't offer you any compensation right now, but we'll find a way to split any prizes and revenue (if it comes to that).
