Strooling through meijer's game section, this game caught my eye. Im not shure if this is a shmup because I only seen the cover of the game case. If there is anymore information someone can share about this game let me know!!!!!!!
Are you talking about Neo Contra? If so, it's a borderliner that uses some kind of aiming system. I heard that it's good, but not great. I'm thinking of getting it, but I'll probably get Shattered Soldier first.

I've played both, and they're both quite fun though in different ways. Shattered Soldier is straightforward, 2D run-n-gun gameplay with some very cool and some not so cool levels. Neo Contra gives you a variety of overhead viewpoints, and it takes a bit of practice to conrol moving together with shooting (the controls are not as intuitive as, say, Robotron), but the game is enjoyable in part because once you get used to the controls you can fairly well kick some ass-- the game is not too hard.
There's a site that has awesome Superplay videos of every stage of Shattered Soldier, I can't remember the URL so I'll look it up again; the videos are absolutely amazing!
I'm just pissed at Konami for not including at least the original NES Contra game in one of their new ones, as an unlockable or something. It's ridiculous; Tecmo, as far as I know, has added in all 3 NES Ninja Gaiden games into XBOX Ninja Gaiden, and one of the Cube Rogue Squadron games has the original 3 Star Wars arcade games.

Yeah. I'm pissed at Konami for making a half-hearted port of Contra 3 for GBA shortly after Shattered Soldier came out. After the awesome job Factor 5 did of porting the SNES Contra 3 to the b/w GB, there is no excuse for the way it got ported to the GBA. I hope Konami gets the ports of Ganbare Goemon 1 & 2 for GBA right.
I want to get Rogue Squadron 3. I love the Star Wars Arcade games. What a coincidence, all of three of the Rogue Squadron games were designed by Factor 5, the same people who ported Contra 3 to the GB!
Neo Contra is probably only for those who loved the top-down levels in the earlier Contras. Sometimes, the boss patterns are almost basic shmup-like though. Not hard and not very fun IMO.

I'd sooner see inclusions of original versions of games - example Shadow Warriors (Ninja Gaiden) and Gryzor (Contra) - both arcade. At least Sega did with Outrun 2.
After playing Shattered Soldier through again, I dunno....I think I'm liking Neo Contra more. Maybe it's because SS is getting kind of old, but I really love NC; it's a whole different attitude in the series, and in more way than one, an evolution in it.
I honestly would not mind if the next Contra was like NC.
Ganelon, I hated the top-down views in Contras like Super C and Contra 3, just goes to show there's at least one guy who goes against what types of fans are expected to like NC

I wouldn't mind seeing inclusions of the original versions of games either, but I would like to see them included with other versions. IMO, with the NES Ninja Gaidens, at least the first two are great games on their own and the third one isn't a bad game, just inferior to the others. However, the arcade game is deserving of a good home port. It stinks how the only decent home port of it is on the Atari Lynx.
The NES Contras are great games and I won't mind them being in a compliation along with the arcade versions. I would also like to see the MSX Contra included since it's different from the others.

...And if you like your games pathetically easy. Seriously, the game would be a lot of fun if I couldn't beat it like a red-headed step child. It's essentially made for all these kids these days who like their games to give them 10,000 lives and and reassure their self-esteem every five minutes.
And the soundtrack is really no where near the quality of SS.
The white clouds floating on the great blue sky
And the boiling red blood shed in fierce gaming
Those who give up halfway through
Their battered bodies will never forget!
Segata Sanshiro, Segata Sanshiro! Sega Saturn... shiro!
I really liked neo contra, and it isn't as easy as you think if your going for the real ending. I still could do without the lock on stuff though even though it isn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I don't understand why so many people claim Neo Contra to be that "easy". Its a pretty good challenge if you want to see all 7 levels.
In fact, I was able to beat Neo Contra all the way through with 1 credit in about two weeks of dedicated play(full defaults)...which is almost exactly how long it took me to master a 1CC in the very first Contra. So, when you really think about it, Contra(NES) isn't really that "hard" to begin with.
Operation Super C (Contra II) is a little tougher though...still, I 1CC'd it too!
They're tough, but not as "hard" as most make them out to be. You just have to play perfectly, and Neo Contra is no exception.
Shattered Soldier may be even harder...but I don't own the game yet, so therefore, I've yet to master it.

Just to go slightly off-topice for a sec, I think Sega copped out on Out Run 2. After making fans wait 17/18 years for an official sequel, they should have included Turbo and Out Runners as well, 'specially Out Runners, seeing as how the only home version is a slightly whiffy MD port. What did they include? A version of the original that's inferior to both the DC's Shenmue and the Xbox's Mame'd versions. An utterly wasted opportunity. Dammit, Out Runners was possible the pinnacle of sprite-based racing games and it's a damn shame that so few people know or care.
