Capcom seems to be on fire lately. First they catch me totally off guard with the impressive RE4 and now this little gem. Yeah the game constantly goes overboard with the completely over the top cut scenes (yes Dante is cool, I freakin' get it already!!! ) and I often found myself snickering when I am sure Capcom expected me to be impressed but the gameplay is pure gold. I never played the sequel but it improves on the already excellent original in just about every aspect imo.
I have heard complaints about the difficulty and while its certainly no cakewalk I haven't gotten too frustrated yet. Seems to be about on par with Ninja Gaiden so far. I guess two other nitpicks would be how jaring it was to return to the static camera angles after playing through RE4 and the music (and this is coming from someone who enjoys metal.) I would be interested to hear anyone elses opinion on the game if they have one. Anyways check it out if you enjoyed the first one!
Here's hoping Killer 7 turns out half as cool as it looks! Go Capcom!
seconded on Killer 7. i doubt that i will ever play DM3 (and will never buy it). in the past i have proved to be a bit of a sore loser (there was a post on the old forums, of the things i have broken), so i tend to stay away from games that could "unleash the demons," so to speak.
Random statement: my favorite story of damage while gaming. someone on Shoryuken said they were playing MvsC2 in an arcade and they jammed the joystick down into the machine *it's funny because i was never in that arcade, and therefore am not the manager*
runner up: someone else playing the same game almost tipped over the cabinet in a fit of rage. i am sooo off-topic. sorry.

I'm on level 16 on DMC3 now too, and it's a great game, much better than 2 IMO.
Yes it's hard, but if you power up and manage your items properly, it's not too bad. Bosses are great and each has a pattern you can exploit. My only gripes are with the camera angle (switching views so much, first you're walking up now down, etc), and combos that have too much animation and leave you open for counterattack.
The cutscenes are heavily Matrix influenced.........but cool if you can suspend your concept of reality for a while.......
^ In the cheap case, you may as well wait for a RE4 price drop as well. Lotsa, "one hit kills" or "one hit and half your bar is gone". The difference is a lot of healing items in RE4.

Those of you a ways into this game (still on level 4, but fully powered up); do you end up switching weapons mid combo (IE sword to flail or anything crazy like that?). The ability is there, but I haven't really found a good use for it yet.

I don't really find this game to be that cheap. Bosses can be difficult, but they almost always have either a weakness to a certain weapon, or a spot to hit that paralizes them. The only really cheap thing I've found so far (level 17) is one regular enemy that is an angel that is really hard to hit, flys around above ground, and can hide in walls. Most of this game is understanding the combat system and using the proper weapon. Hard, yes, cheap, not really...........
I love the ability to switch weapons real time now, it's actually very helpful. With the gun it's obvious, since they are each so different, and my main choice of weapons are the sword and the ice nun-chucks. I use the sword's dash move to make an initial hit on a guy, then switch to nun-chucks and do the spinning attack for a lot of hits. I also find them useful when in a large group of enemies: don't lock on, keep swinging and change direction a few times, you'll hit everyone in the group.

I really dont find myself switching devil arms mid-combo all that much either (I am currently on level 14.) I do suppose that if you want an S rank on style points that would be the way to go. Man does it ever look cool to do it though. You are in store for one horrible treat of a cut scene after beating level nine. You have been warned!
Oddly enough I found myself getting more at frustrated at RE4. I am pretty sure it was just due to the meticulous way I play through survival horror games. Still though, my neighbors heard alot more yelling coming from my house while playing the new RE as opposed to DMC 3.
Resident Evil.
OMFGZ This game is F*cking cheap. They give you fifteen bullets for thirty zombies which regenerate and take eight bullets to kill, so you have to resort to your knife which takes triple the effort to kill. That's not all. The controls are fucking unsuitable for the game because they decided to ramp up the difficulty big time. GGGGRRRRRR.

OK, two disclaimers, I switched to easy (IE what was 'normal' on the Japanese version), and I'm only on level 6 or 7 (though I've been playing through the earlier levels a lot to level everything up).
What gives with all the supposed super-difficulty? I'm not trying to say the game is easy, but if I play carefully I can avoid getting hit almost all the time. Has everyone just become a gaming wuss or have I not gone far enough into the game for it to get stupidly, relentlessly difficult. From what I've seen, DMC1 seemed a lot chearper--in fact, I don't see any cheapness in this game at all. What gives?
Oh, btw, is 3 the max level for every style?

I found it a little hard to get going at first (Cerberus....) since you are not very powered up.........then in the middle levels it does slow down a bit, then the higher levels pick up again..........and I just got to what I think is the last boss, and it's really tough......
And I think you're right about gamers being watered down these days, I would call DMC3 challenging but not impossible (I'm playing on easy too BTW). Once you learn the fighting styles it's not so bad - and this game is also about item management too........be sure to have the right stuff stocked........oh, and chosing the right weapons for bosses - some weapons hurt certain bosses more.
And yes, the highest levels on styles is three, and some of the later styles don't even level up.......
I find the difficulty curve very similar to Ninja Gaiden. The game starts off difficult and seems to become easier as you progress. I had a hell of a time at the begining but really seemed to get into the swing of things around level 8 or so. I am playing through the game on normal difficulty.
In all honesty I think I got caught up in all the hype over its difficutly before buying it and ended up expecting a stiffer challenge. Not that its easy mind you. I managed to clear stage 17 right before bed last night. Almost there!
