Shmups in your to-play-list or "pile of shame"?...

Post by tehkao »

You know...that huge pile of shmups that we're all planning to eventually play/beat once we have time...the shmups that you somehow never got around to play although you really want to...what are the games in your pile of shame?

My pile is particularly shameful:

R-Type 3
Gradius Gaiden
Gradius V
Cyvern
Mars Matrix
Border Down
Eliminate Down
Pulstar
Blazing Star
Donpachi
Axelay
Strikers 1945 2
Strikers 1945 3

Sigh..so many shmups...so little time...

While I know the title is tongue-in-cheek, I still wouldn't say it's "shameful" not having found time to play every shmup in existence... it's perfectly normal

I've been playing shmups for 20+ years and I still haven't come close to playing them all.

Practically everything I own....

I own 33 shmups and 6 borderliners, and I've only 1CCed ONE of them... and I just bought 5 more shmups off dave..!
I have an even bigger pile of .....less honourably "owned" (i.e. pirated) shmups... none of which I've 1CCed.... pile of shame in more ways than one... :(

I'll buy that Cyvern if you're not going to do anything with it ;-)

It doesn't help I'm tired all the time lately, as well :? Stupid winter.

Do you have to own them?

If not, my "pile of shame" includes mostly console stuff. I have never owned a Nintendo, PC Engine, or Saturn. Someday I probably need to get into the console scene and try out all these supposedly great shmups that were released on them long ago.

I have such a hard time sticking with a game for a long period of time, so I often just play a shmup for a day or two, put it back into my collection, and don't see it again for several months. Here's a few I would like to play more often:

Fire Shark
Thunder Force IV
Wings of Wor
Steel Empire
Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius
Sexy Parodius
Gokujo Parodius
Gradius II
Salamander
Salamander 2
Guardian Force
Sengoku Blade
Strikers 1945
Zero Gunner 2
Border Down
GunBird 2
DonPachi
Kyuukyoku Tiger II Plus
Game Tengoku
Darius Gaiden

A few of those games (Salamander 2, Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius, and Fire Shark) I could almost certainly 1CC if I really committed myself.

The main one I haven't played as much as I've meant to is Skull Fang: not because I don't like it or even because I don't have time, but because I can't figure out how to work it properly, as I can't find a decent FAQ anywhere...
