ESP ra.de/Dodonpachi fanboy seeks new love.

Post by neorichieb1971 »

I have a PS1 and 2 and a Dreamcast (Japanese and USA).

I have Mushime-sama and Under Defeat.

Looking for a vert which plays roughly like ESP ra.de or DDP.

I've never played Psyvariar, Shikigami, Trizeal, ESP galuda or Chaos field. Which all look appealing.

I like basic action and hectic sorts. I can usually get to 1-5 on most games on 1 credit. I don't want something stupid hard.

I'm just looking for one game on a console, so money is no object.

If you were me, which would you buy?

I would go for Espgaluda (PS2) or Shikigami No Shiro (PS2 or DC). Both are excellent shooters and Espgaluda isn't to taxing.

ESPGaluda. Easy to play casually, or addictively.

Espgaluda without a doubt.
It's real fun to play on either arcade or arrange mode and as previously stated, good for casual or competitive play.

Castle Shikigami 2 is good as is Psyvariar 2 and the PS2 compliation however, you're looking to get one so Espgaluda is the clear winner.

ESPgaluda definitely. It's easier than 'rade and has a much more satisfying scoring mechanic IMO.

Shikigami is a bit bland and there are too many characters to learn.

Another nod for Galuda: a great game in general, and the PS2's Arrange mode brings back the "piercing gun" from Ra.de, although beware, that mode is tough!

Psyvariar and Shikigami don't play a heckuva lot like either of the Cave games you mentioned, but I like them both regardless, and you can probably find them cheaper than Galuda.

I'm one of the relative minority around here that likes Chaos Field: it has a "chaining" mechanic, though it works a bit differently than DDP's. PS2 and GC versions apparently have a few extra knicknacks and less slowdown than the DC version.

Haven't played Trizeal.

Yes, if you like ESP Ra.de, then you'll like ESPGaluda. Shiki is also a pretty good shmup, but I find Psyvariar to be quite excellent and fun. The bullet-scraping is pretty cool (and very manly).
