Playing/thinking up games even in my dreams?

Post by Specineff »

To make the long story short, one of the last dreams I had last night involved a game that appeared to be an update to the underrated Midway game Assault: Retribution, but this time for PS2.

The view was from above, kinda like Cannon-Spike, but it had that Metal Slug or Contra feel, the "Blast Away and GO GO GO!" spirit. It featured the black guy from the first Assault game as the token strong but slow character, a small but agile young redhead anime girl, and a balanced brunnette who looked a bit like that character Fox from Bloody Roar, but this one was an actual female. That's the one I chose.

In addition to all the blasting of vehicles in the huge ass arena, you also had to go blow up three randomly-placed charges in the level so as to either clear it or get some sort of bonus. Funny thing is, you actually lit up some matches to detonate the classic cartoon-looking dynamite charges.

Now, those who have played Caliber 50 in the arcade will remember there were certain characters who'd run to you and blow up. (VietCong or innocent victims strapped with explosives, I don't know). In my dream, if you found a japanese business man (Probably hostage) you got close to him before the timer expired, and pressed a button to activate a special event in which you had to enter a sequence of buttons as if playing either Simon or Rock-Paper-Scissors, with a cool Matrix-like slow motion effect showing you maneuvering around him cutting wires, straps, and if successful, removing the explosive device from him and tossing it away to explode without harming anyone. Fail, and you have one second to stay away from the poor doomed soul.

What do you think? Too many cookies before going to bed, or the next Jeff Minter? (The inspiration for Tempest came to him in a dream, remember?) :D

I didn't play it long when I had the chance. EGM said it was very Contra-ish, and actually decent. Gamefaqs reviews say its mediocre. I think it's worth a rental, though.

Don't feel to bad, I killed a guy in my dream last night by rubbing hi sface with sandpaper, a obvious combination of Wario Ware Touched and something else.

I actually vaguely remember dreaming of playing some Japanese arcade-only game that hadn't been ported or emulated yet, once...mighta been Mushi, but it was kinda fuzzy, seeing as I hadn't played the actual game to base the dream off of, heh heh. Weird, huh?

I dreamed about playing some version of street fighter in an arcade before. But what's most bizarre are dreams where you're in a gameworld, with game rules, rather than just playing games. I've only had these a few times, but they're pretty interesting.

A couple of times I've actually dreamed of finding rare import (yes, import) games in Wal-Mart and Radio Shack-esque stores before.

What coincidence this thread is here today. Last night I had a dream I was playing Gunbird 2, but the view of it instead of a top down vert, it became like Axelay, and Silpheed TLP. I remembered using Valpiro(even though I use Marion), and I remembered I had a hard time dodging the fast bullet spreads in this new view.
