So everyone could describe their shmup experiences link to some highscores and he might also write what he thinks are his weakpoints. But I guess some will retreat to let the better players get into the team. Some of those who have confirmed, mentioned that they are kinda the reserve players. Which I'd count myself too. as a reserve player.
That was pretty much my concern. I'm not too hot on the poll issue as it wouldn't be fair to those who have confirmed their interest only to be dropped by a vote. Again, I personally don't mind stepping aside if it means that another player can get the benefit of high level competition.
I agree that discussing it with the confirmed players before selection is important. But lets wait on that first, as we still have to finalise the confirmed list. ^_-
Thankfully the guys at Arcade Extreme have stated that they don't mind delaying the start and finish of the competition for now while we sit here arguing over selection and rules. ^_-
Edge wrote:And yeah, I absolutely agree with you Nemo. I don't like how the game selection works in this competition. Despite that team Italy probably knows for quite a while which games they've chosen and have been already practising them for who knows how long. More important is this system won't probably get a range of games which can represent the entire shmup genre. I think we might ask for a different rule there, games selected by theme and then randomly picked games for each theme we have chosen so far. Certain companies is a good idea as theme. If you guys agree we might insist on a different game selection rule.
Given how short notice the challenge was, I think we can be entitled to a request of this nature. Perhaps someone can ask GEMANT here or on their forum about this?

Even if I agree they have a point with the demanding of Wolf Mame replays. I think we could also insist that snapshots or video recordings of the "real" games are also allowed. Since some folks on shmups.com only play on their PCBs. And so in order to make this competition representable for shmups.com, the rules of it can't force people to stay out of it. Hmmm... I can see their point would be "You can still play the game on emulator"... and honestly I think they have a point there.....
hmmm... What do you guys think about the emulation issue?
Again, I have no problem with emulation (as I use it in some cases myself, being a poor student ^_-). With emulation you can ensure that players all have access to a particular game, and can also record a smallish input file to support (hardware limitations permitting). However, emulation automatically renders many game choices null and void due to emulation issues - including some awesome 3D based stuff like G-Darius and Brave Blade - as well as other issues such as glitchy controls in Raizing games, unemulated Cave games, poor emulation of popular titles like Soukyugurentai etc etc - so game selection is narrowed slightly as a result.
Again, we have to drag GEMANT and the others from Team AST into this duscussion so we can all work to smooth out the problems before they occur, and work towards the smooth start and running of a very interesting (and potentially repeatable) competition idea.

Definitely. Someone go get the guys in here, or alteratively you can chat to them on
their forum. ^_-
EDIT: Ahaha, I've only just noticed that Team AST have already set up a protected forum for their competition discussion. ^_-
