the initials show you what version you were playing..
e.g v.01 is the initial for version 1.01 and fes is the initial for matsuri festival version.

I had this crap run where I died before the stage 1 mid-boss and then again on the stage 1 boss but I decided to continue for the lulz. At that point the score was only in the low 3 millions and I decided that shooting for one extend would be a fun challenge. By the end of the run I had ended up at 24mil, just 2mil shy of my highest score and my second highest with the yellow piggy. I lost one of the extends to the second boss, and another the the third stage mid-boss. Still a low score and I didn't make it as far as I normally would, but it was an exciting run.

Pushed through to 2-2 on 1.01 MMP just now. Scored 117m, and was on a good run but I didn't expect the water towers in stage 2 to burst open with bullets in the second loop and I lost my last two lives on them. Next time... next time...

What?! Damn you! Have you played the PCB? That's quick progress if you are just getting your feet wet, nice job regardless.

The only thing I'd really like in a future patch is a few more options for the display modes, like some basic scanlines or something. While I don't usually care about them, in this case, both games running tated on my 24' monitor via HDMI look crap with smoothing on, and very rough (but bearable) with smoothing off. Even some simple light scanlines would go a long way to making the graphics a little nicer to look at for long periods of time.

Otherwise, the port is fantastic, and well worth the wait. I came for both games in ver 1.00, got three nice arrange modes as a bonus. Ver 1.01 is okay for both games, but I'd class them as Novice Modes essentially, as the variety of tweaks make both games easier to play, and in some cases make the game completely different to the original version - if you want the games in full brutal difficulty, play it in ver 1.00. While I do miss both PCBs, the port is a good enough replacement.

I've done some searching and can't find out how to unlock Manpuku and H mode for the pork. I did find the info for the PCB, is the code the same or do you unlock it some other way on the 360 version? thx

I have a question about the display modes--I have been TATE'ing my 42" lcd and trying to get the best results for display (so its not blurry, biggest TATE size possible, etc.). This experimentation has generated a few q's:

1) If I zoom and keep the proportions (ie 130% and 130%) to the exact same number, the aspect ratio should remain the same as the pcb, correct?

2) If the answer to #1 is NO (not the same % number for both zoom values), then what are the percent numbers that would equate to the true pcb TATE aspect ratio?

I have wide turned off, and I think that the current zoom I have them both at is like 130% or something--I am careful to keep the numbers identical so that there is no stretching going on. I have been messing with the smoothing and it seems better with it on, if a bit blurry. I read somewhere in this thread that someone put the 360 in 640x480 mode for arcade resolution with smoothing off, but I can't figure out how to do this on my 360 (running an HDMI cable currently, this is the problem isn't it? Will a component cable or VGA cable allow me to choose resolution as opposed to the HDMI cable?).

Any help would be appreciated.

You have to go into the options and game settings. Lame, I know.

Thx, I have actually tried that but only have 1.00 and 1.01. Do you have to clear the game first? I've still only gotten to the 4th stage so I was saving the clear for an honest one. But if i need to coin-feed to unlock the other modes that's fine. I'm just really curious to see them in action.

I don't think you have to beat it. It's just under "Course" not "Version."

I have to disagree actually as far as MMP is concerned. While I can see your point, I find 1.01 more challenging. The reason is simply rank. In 1.0, since your lard meter depletes more quickly and you get less lard from pigs I tend to score lower. As such I don't stockpile lives as easily. In 1.01 I'm able to keep the full five throughout most of the stages, but this makes boss rank go nuts. The stage 4 boss is the biggest example, at least in my play style. In 1.0 I can usually get by him with zero deaths so long as I have a couple of bombs for the final spray pattern. But in 1.01, rolling in with five lives, I'm lucky if I leave with only two deaths since his patterns are just out of control by his second form. It would seem on paper that getting more lives and having more meter to grind bosses with lard shot would make the game much easier, but at least for me the rank increase makes up for it.

Currently playing Pink Sweets again and liking it a lot.

I'll eventually get round to Pork (again) and this 2 loop Matsuri 1.1 mode. I'm always interested in more than 1 loop

While certainly easier in several respects, I don't think I'd go so far as calling 'em de facto "Novice" modes, especially in comparison to the "actual" Novice modes put out on previous ports, heh. More like "holds appeal for non-diehards too" modes.

I agree. I 1CCed Futari's and GaludaII's Novice modes on the first credit, quite easily, but haven't even come close on 1.01 after 10-15 tries. Of course some of this might be due to it being a completely different style of game, but I certainly don't think it's on the same level of 'novice' as the other two games I mentioned.

You're absolutely right, though, in that it does hold more appeal for me (a non-diehard) since I'm making noticeable progress and will eventually get the 1cc.

Ah, so the 1.01 modes were not a PCB revision, but something made just for this release? (different from Futari 1.01 vs 1.5)

Pink Sweets arrange mode seems to be the "novice mode" on this release. You can charge up your shield and rose cracker while still shooting, which totally changes the gameplay dynamics later on. In the regular game, you have to use trial and error to discover when to shoot and when to charge up, and be able to execute them with good timing just to survive. But in arrange with the shield always charging and the rose cracker firing every couple seconds all while shooting non-stop, there's much less finesse in them.

I'm glad to hear that MMP 1.01 isn't considered novice mode to everyone. After Icarus' post I tried 1.00 for the first time and didn't see the difference being that large. I'm with Anesthetize regarding Futari and GaludaII's novice modes.

You will if you're playing for score. MMP! v1.01 appears to have a slower rate of rank increase and patterns not as dense as usual, and enemies don't seem to be as resilient, which coupled with the extended duration on the Lard Attack, makes many parts of the stages really easy. v1.00 is far tougher, the loop requirements are extreme (but quite fun to aim for), and if played correctly, you can drive rank to maximum by the second boss, or just into the third stage. Remember, rank is tied to scoring, so if you're just floating through with a crappy score, of course the game will seem easy, or that there's not much difference between the two - as soon as you start milking bosses and rocking huge wads of pork gold, v1.00 bites back.

PS v1.01 doesn't play anything like v1.00, since v1.01 features three Rosehips instead of two, your Rose Cracker charge is sped up, and you respawn almost instantaneously. I believe rank increases slower as well, though need to check more thoroughly.

Both v1.01 modes are decent introductions for newcomers, agreed, but are their own individual games. While you can quite easily take strategies from v1.00/PCB to v1.01, it isn't as easy going from v1.01 to v1.00, and I reckon anyone looking to play for score in v1.00 will be torn to shreds if they start their careers on v1.01 first (especially in Pink Sweets, lol).

tl:dr - someone loop MMP! v1.00 already.

Icarus thanks for the deep dive. I don't play at a high level, but I understand there is one, reading stuff like this from those who have more exp is always nice.

I put some extra time into Pink Sweets arrange mode today, and got the 1cc. Sheesh, that mode hands out extends like a Touhou game.

I think it's safe to say the Hadou Gun breaks the game. Not only does it nullify the hardest attack patterns in the game, but also hands you nearly enough medals for another extend if placed well.

Congrats, but 1CC is not the only goal of this game. BTW: have you posted your score in the HS thread yet?
