How is that transition going to work? I suppose if you're playing in 16:9 will you have an advantage because of the larger screen, which is kind of annoying. The reason I never played Deathsmiles 1.1 mode was because I didn't like being at a disadvantage for using a stick, so if I'm at a disadvantage using a 4:3 screen as well I will be a little annoyed.

I would guess that they would extend the play field to the left and right. So you'd go from arcade mode being standard to 16:9 mode being easier. This is different from the DS 1.1 mode, where the game is intended to be played with the dual analog, so using a stick is a disadvantage. Using 4:3 would be no different from arcade, and if you have the bigger screen you can make things easier on yourself.dmauro wrote:How is that transition going to work? I don't know guys....I've been totally thrilled, and surprised, by all the shmups the 360 has gotten and the unbelieveable fact that we've gotten Region-Free Cave games, Cave games licensed in the US, and even Cave titles for XBLA! But I have to say...this looks really uninspired. Aside from (maybe) the stone castle monster everything about this game looks idiotic. And not in the bizarre that-only-flies-in-Japanese-games kind of way. This just looks dull and stupid. I hate to say it because I never thought I'd be able to even play Cave titles due to their insanity and now I own every 360 release of theirs thus far (and the accompanying Arcade Sticks)....but this I just don't want to get near. It's like Cave suddenly had a stroke or something.....I think I'd rather play Deadly Premonition. If I'm going to just throw money away that is.

I actually ended up modifying my Ketsui SE order that I placed last year, and changing it into a DS2 LE order. With all the coupons and whatnot that were on the Ketsui order, I'm almost paying retail price!
Though I'm still waiting to see what NCS does... now that I know coupons and website funds carry over even if you modify an order, I could do another modify if NCS ends up with the better price...

Yeah, i'm not buying this. The only reason anyone is even giving this a chance is because it is Cave, and that usually means quality. Thing is, I already have a very good looking, and fun DS game on my 360 already. Do not be fooled by the fugly graphics; DSII is pretty fun and I think most that have played it will agree. I actually enjoy it more than the first game (although I'm not a huge fan of DS to begin with). Visually it's a step back, but it still plays like the Cave we know and trust (fun, deep, endlessly frustrating), so I think most will be pleasantly surprised.

I'm just wondering why, when they did a pretty decent job putting a game together with prerendered graphics, that they had so much trouble replicating that look with on-the-fly renders? It's not even so much the models they use, but the animations just aren't as good, especially for stuff like that reindeer boss (compare to the cow boss of the first game).
Still getting the game, as it -does- look fun to play, and enough people whose opinions I trust say the game is great despite how it looks.

No, I did play it at the AOU but it was an early build with 2 stages in there (and it was quite crappy at that point).
According EOJ it's great and he's a more than reliable source, so it must have come on quite a bit.

That's what I'm wondering. The only explanation that I can think of, is that the backgrounds being in real-time 3D use up resources that could have been dedicated to the character/enemy models. Cave's new hardware might not be powerful enough to handle everything being in 3D. Weird - the backgrounds are from the first game... wonder what it is? It'll be a bonus if some of the original graphics are used in some way. To anyone who may know - what is the general opinion of Japanese players regarding the new 3D graphics. EOJ over at Cave-STG posted that the screens are from a new mode called "Tsukaima race", which is looking to be a race/puzzle game of sorts. He also mentioned that the LE artwork isn't final, but will remain generally the same stylistically. All this info comes from the Cave blog post.
