If you plan on playing Karous or Radirgy in Tate Mode, you have enter a code every time you boot up the game so your controls become Tate.

The code is - Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Up, 1, 2.

Enter the code with the Wiimote on the Main Menu. If you do it correctly you will hear a sound.
That is incredibly stupid.

edit: irony removed, sorry

Thank goodness they fixed this in Illvelo Wii.
No code required.

What?! Are you serious? That's ridiculous! They already made a SLOWDOWN FREE Gamecube port. How do you screw a Wii port up? Damnit,
Now you feel my pain. I've been complaining about this since the japanese release back in April 08.

The only time I play Radirgy or Chaos Field is when I pop in the GC version. There's no point in playing the Wii version if you already own the superior GC version.

Karous is a really good game so you should get it for that reason alone.

I have the JPN version.
The whole collection is entirely in English. It's very easy to navigate through.
The US release should look exactly the same as the JPN release.

Doesn't the arcade version of Chaos Field have slowdown?

Also nice quadruple post.

One would assume that they would translate the in-game dialog.

On NCSX's site dated 1-19-2009, the USA Wii region version of UFO's Ultimate Shooting Collection software title goes on sale this week and comes complete with a pic of what it looks like on USA gaming retailer's shelves:

I don't know about there being no reason to play USA Radirgy Wii; how about if you want to be able to READ the game? ;-)
(don't people cell phone you / talk to you during the gameplay or something? text? voice? can't remember)

I was asking about the quality of the translation. The O3 build was looking mighty okay.

Still no sign of it here yet.

Of course the local Gamestop has claimed to "have it in storage for release but we can't sell it yet" for about 2 months now.

Conversation with stupid girl at counter.

Ryan: Hi, do you have Ultimate Shooting Collection for the Wii?
Girl: I haven't heard of it coming in.
Ryan: Could you check and see if you have it in inventory?
Girl: Types into "The System" for about 10 seconds.
Girl: No.
Ryan: Could you tell me when it will come in?
Girl: It doesn't say.
Ryan: Well the release date was supposed to be today and your website mentions it.
Girl: Umm well this is Montana so maybe we will get it tomorrow or something.

------ What happened next may have gone like this-------

Ryan: Can I purchase an overheating XBAWKZ 360 with Halo 3 and some modern form of Madden only slightly different from the '95 version for my Sega Genesis? I would also like to purchase a Gold Membership.

Girl: Goes into convulsions of joy.

Ryan: Also I would like to preorder the next High-profile Low-content game you have. Please ensure that you forget to notify me about the release while I forgoe eating to wait at the phone. Also when you call me please make sure that you give me a 5 minute long speach about a game you think I care about before even getting to the point.

IGN reviewed it.
Go ahead, write down a few statements you will read in the review.
After you've done that, you should read the review here http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/947/947170p1.html
My list included:
"Ikaruga is the best shooter evaar"
"This game is too short 3x"
"This game is too hard"

What i didn't expect however was:
"Oh noes these arcade-ports don't have online leaderboards"
"Chaos Field is the graphically most advanced game" oO

That review was just awful. The reviewer clearly played each game for all of 15 minutes. He barely talked about the differences between the three games at all, he claimed that weapons level up in all three games while of course in reality they only level up in karous, and he didn't mention chaos field's system - which is DRASTICALLY different from karous and radirgy - whatsoever.

When sites like IGN review games in most genres, like FPS, RTS, RPG, fighting, etc., the reviewer generally knows and likes the genre in which he is reviewing. If I hated FPSes, and I had to write a review of Half-Life, I might say "well I don't really like this game because I don't know much about FPSes and I don't really like them that much, but I guess if you like these types of games you should take a look at it. 6.5/10" This NEVER happens for most genres of game reviews. Yet for shmups, it's the norm, because so few of these sites have reviewers who are into or know anything about shmups. It seems very unprofessional to me, and pretty unfair to the genre.
"I think Ikaruga is pretty tough. It is like a modern version of Galaga that some Japanese company made."

I think ign did a pretty good job of saying that if you have ny real interest in these games you probably already know far more about them than we do.

Ha...Aha ha....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Otherwise, this review suceeds in telling absolutely nothing about the game. If I were reading this with no prior knowledge of Milstone games, I would be absolutely confused and uninterested. All they say is "This is a game, a 2d shooting game, it looks bleh, and has no online leaderboards waaaah."

On the other hand, this COULD indicate that the game will finally be released after this one-day-delay. ON the other hand, Radirgy got reviewed too, and we know what happened to that...

Well, I read the US IGN review of it, and the reviewer mentioned nothing about slowdown in any of these ports. So I will definitely pick this up.

While the guy didn't sound totally clueless about shmups, I don't think I'd assume there's no slowdown just because IGN didn't mention it.

IGN always mentions slowdown/frame rate issues in games, if there are any.
My bad, there wasn't a US review.

So has anyone actually seen this in the wild yet? Gamestop's useless website still has the game in its "Coming Soon" section, with a release date of... the 23rd. I've called the register goons at the local Gamestop and Game Crazy, and I got the same sort of befuddled head-scratching and "Uh, I don't see it in the system..." as other posters above; my remarks that "Gee, your website has it coming out on the 23rd" failed to produce any spark of recognition. It would be amazing if, through the powers of technology and maybe the intertubes, these companies were somehow able to reconcile their retail and web presences so that you don't feel like some kind of goddamned messenger telling the right hand what the left is doing.

Amazon has it supposedly "in stock"; has anyone had luck ordering from them?

Wow that was refreshingly knowledgeable! An informed review from a (somewhat) mainstream gaming site, unbelievable!

Just got my copy from Amazon today.

I feel for all of you who are trying to get this from GameStop. I gave up on buying shmups from them after they didn't get Castle Shikigami III in until a week after the release date, even though I preordered it.

Passable, but far from perfect. Common Engrish(especially in the instructions), and the opening has untranslated text.

Still, it could be worse. This isn't a Shikigami 2 caliber botch, just a bit of laziness here and there.

Yeah, GameStop workers aren't always the most knowledgeable when it comes to stgs. A friend of mine who works there is huge shooter fan and was competent enough to look the game up in the inventory, but then I decided to fuck with one of the other employees, some new kid, and he's was like "What's that, Duck Hunt or something?" If that wasn't enough to warrant a dick or two in his mouth, he then went on to say that the game wasn't in the system, after the other dude immediately found the release date and everything in the system. Fucking duck hunt...I was amused by this at the time

Anyway, now that you have it, does this game support tate normally or is there some "reverse controls on the wii menu by inputting ridiculous code" bullshit? I hate playing verts on a hori screen, drives me nuts, but I don't know if having to input some nonsensical sequence every time I play would bother me more.

When I first tried tate, it used messed up controls. After entering the code, they worked normally.

It's not that bad, really. I don't know why it requires a code, but it's hardly a difficult one. Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Up, 1, 2, done.

Besides, brings back memories. :P First time I've had reason to use a code in a game in years.

I picked this up on the 23rd from "play n trade", not stupid gamestop. This really is a must have for the wii. I'm glad i didn't go to gamestop. The guy working at "play n trade" looked interested in trying it out. I had a small discussion with him about shmups (which he was surprisingly knowledgable about as far as U.S. releases go) and then wipped out ketsui on the DS. He had mixed reactions as most poeple do when they see a cave game for the first time.

Did he shit his pants or what upon seeing that Ketsui DS in action?

Most grizzled American arcade gamers are familiar with the classic Cave/Atlus Donpachi PCB as it did get a proper arcade release stateside courtesy of Atlus USA. But with Dodonpachi, Atlus USA didn't pick up it for distribution in the USA (despite Cave producing an all-English language "International Version" DDP PCB, Atlus USA could've shipped DDP PCB kits quite easily). ^_~
