Guys

Gus is like the only western player to counterstop futari ultra. Playing on a damn 360 controller on a small ass screen without even rotating the damn monitor.

Prometheus is a god among men at DDP. He uses a keyboard.

Until all us joystick using dudes get to those levels we can't really say much.

I'm all for the real experience of a pcb in a proper cab but I can't sit here and hate on keyboards when some keyboard players make me look like a complete scrub.

Yes. My left hand was crushed in heavy machinery. Really happy I'm a stick player.

By the way, the best way to play shmups is actually with a IIDX controller.

And DEL uses a joystick to destroy MMP.

Since it's civil now (no banhammer pls & thx), I prefer the feel of a stick. It's the least cramp-inducing input method for me. With a d-pad, even my beloved Saturn Model 2, my thumb/hand will eventually cramp up, and the same goes for keyboard.

My other gripe with pads is that I have the tendency to spaz around for no reason. With a stick (or a KB if I didn't hate it) it's easy to only move when necessary. So on a pad, no matter what game I'm playing, I'm basically just playing Dangun Feveron.

Uhh I didn't. I was saying that all the pro joystick players hating on keyboard players should look at their own scores before hating.
If I was implying no one on a joystick could compare to prometheus or gus I guess that means I'm hating on all the japanese super players :|

I'm not hating on keyboard players; I'm saying that their controller isn't as good as a stick.

Or, in other words, "Don't hate the player, hate the input device"

Trying to say x control scheme is superior to y control scheme is idiotic and a huge waste of time. I've seen everything at this point, steering wheel, guitar hero controller, mouse, joystick, pad, the joystick on your controller, keyboard, wii remote motion sensor, light gun. I've seen all of these clear one game in particular before.

If you have a video of a light gun clear of any shmup, I want to see it!

I don't have the video (I didn't do all of those clears lol), but feel free to guess the game :3

I'm going to guess Ketsui since it seems to be the perennial favorite of "shmups completed on weird input devices".

(Also, DDR pad is suspiciously absent from that list.)

The best input device is clearly Kinect because you can use your whole body for movement which gives you greater control.

And using your cock to deliver the final blow to Gun Frontier's boss is surely the greatest advancement in controller technology.

Obscura, no not Ketsui. One of those devices should give you a huge lead on a guess...

The only disadvantage I notice on keyboard is vertical motion, since like most people I use the middle finger for both up and down. You can't underestimate the delay when your middle finger moves from the up key to down key. It makes playing horizontals just a tiny bit harder than verticals.

Oh, wow, I missed Wii remote. I knew of Bananamatic's KetsuiGrandPrix shenanigans, and just cued in when I saw steering wheel mentioned.

Available on Wii or PC (mouse) makes me think SnS III.

Read the packaging on the back of the box:
"Initiating a beam duel requires a swift on-demand erection and sustained blood flow."

From one of those messages Cave posted, it seems that if we care about preserving the games we should /not/ buy steam ones because doing so might result in a lower chance of physical products. Physical products are better.

The fingers next to my middle finger naturally move to the down key if up is pressed. A habit that develops when playing with keyboards since forever.
If watching the trailer of the game
makes you feel a certain way
I would be very happy if
you would give the game a try

Fighting keyboard players sometimes imitate Hitbox layout choosing "Space" instead of "W" for "Up", which is pressed by your right thumb

Physical copies deteriorate, if you really want to preserve these things you need to get them out there in as many different mediums as possible. Their Japanese market will continue to secure physical releases, since they don't really use Steam.

They're already in MAME and the roms all around the net anyway, preservation is not the issue here, what's more important is getting good ports playable on pc (better than emulation) for convenience, also for those who've missed some 360 releases and don't want to bother tracking already expensive used games on that now dust-magnet console, and while we're at it be happy the world is again talking about shmups that aren't 2hu or a random indie game, at least for a little while.

Personally I couldn't care about physical releases as the zoned/freezone with their differences, DLC card shit and all was irritating.
I'll be happy to get what I've missed before with a simple click and at an affordable price.
Also good to mention I will never buy an Xbone and maybe a PS4 but not this year, I don't expect those games to land on the PS4 in physical format ever anyway.
Finally I'm done collecting, I just want to play with no hassle at his time of my life.
