I dunno. I honestly think it's a LOT less dumb than grading a game using only the top half of a 10/10 scale, making anything less than 8/10 a "bad" game, 5/10 being terrible.MachineAres 1CC wrote: Wow, what kind of dumb shit way to review a game is that? After reading some guides and such I managed to hit 1.76 billion.
My main problem is triggering recharges and playing on the level 1 setting even though I'm quite sure I can do at least level 2 comfortably.

I'm not opposed to using a word to "score" a game, but "good" is the most vauge and meaningless word in the English language when you're trying to describe something.Sumez wrote:I dunno. good posts, everyone
Re: Deathsmiles IIX (Xbox 360) - GoD release in US/Can/Mex
I don't know the site in question, but I bet they have an official scale placing good somewhere between the likes of other vague words like "decent" and "very good", which would give a better idea of what a "good" score means, rather than the word all on its own.MachineAres 1CC wrote: I'm not opposed to using a word to "score" a game, but "good" is the most vauge and meaningless word in the English language when you're trying to describe something.
A site I'm related to uses a number (10/10) system, but in an attempt to have people use the entirety of the scale, we have similar words associated with each score, like this:
1 - Terrible
2 - Very bad
3 - Bad
4 - Acceptable
5 - Mediocre
6 - Good
7 - Very good
8 - Excellent
9 - Fantastic
10 - Unique / Perfect
On a scale like that, I think it's quite obvious what "good" means.

On a scale like that, "good" actually means "bad."
I have never seen a gaming site/mag review on an /10 system where <7 is decent.

You're reading it the wrong way around.Special World wrote:On a scale like that, "good" actually means "bad."

These aren't descriptions of the scores used by other gaming mags or sites, but the scores used by US - the users as well as the staff. The thing is, we are grading every game ever released, and you can't do that using only the 7's to 10's.
10 should be an extremely rare score only awarded to the very very best games ever created, while 7 should still be a really good game.
As I wrote earlier in this thread, the fact that most mags treat anything below 8 as a bad score, is a terrible misunderstanding of the 10/10 score scale. Think movie reviews which are usually 5/5 - A 2/5 movie is below average, so you know not to expect anything great, but if you dig the genre, series or director, it still might be worth checking out. Meanwhile, a 6/10 game, which SHOULD be ABOVE average, usually means "stay the fuck away".

I guess I can talk Deathsmiles here?
I was looking forward to the game, and wound up being very disappointed.
Just felt too short and simplistic. Great style and graphics, but too lean on content, IMO.
I think I was expecting more of a robust story mode from the early screens.
Ah well.

Yes, I'm that guy that likes having a storyline in shmups. Sue me.

Don't get me wrong, I love shmups, but this one just didn't feel particularly special.NzzpNzzp wrote:I think you're playing the wrong genre of games, there, buddy.cj iwakura wrote:Just felt too short and simplistic.

Surely there are other things that take precedent in shmups over story. Scoring? (Of which Deathsmiles II's is particularly good.)
Honestly, I can't think of a worse genre to have stories shoehorned in. Whenever there's dialogue or anything close in a shmup I'm tappin' on the skip button rapid fire style.

So in IIX mode, I've been alternating between sending out red line blue bullets and then holding out the lock on the gather as many suicide bullets as I can for jewels. Does anyone know if this is the best way or if it's better to only shoot out the blue line lasers for big points?

Sorry for the late bump and all but my review finally got posted.

Blame E3.
Oh and please ignore that some of the images are from the first game.
Also I'm really pushing on the word limit but if I missed anything or posted some wrong info let me know.
Much appreciated.

Why did you put them in if you're embarrassed of them :X
Good review, though. The first paragraph had some great comedic pacing, imo.

Quick Q: Say I buy this, download it to my console... Can I play it offline or do I absolutely have to be connected to the Internet to play? Pretty much a deal breaker for me...
Thanks for enlightening me!

You can play as long as you want, online or offline ... i bought it and i mostly play offline, since i dont like to be connected to XBLive ... whenever you go online again, the system will update your status on the net anyway, so dont worry abo8ut that.KindGrind wrote:Quick Q: Say I buy this, download it to my console... You don't need to be connected to Live to play any Cave port (retail or download). Not sure where you got that idea from.
Re: Deathsmiles IIX (Xbox 360) - GoD release in US/Can/Mex
After my last console RRODed I couldn't play Iky and Guwange offline on it...
That is, before I did the license transfer, which is a pretty sketchy process.
Thanks for the input, fellows. Looks like I'll be down 30$ in the near future.

The console you buy it on allows you to play it offline - take your profile and game to another console, and you'll have to be logged in.
As with everything else downloaded from Xbox Live. License transfer is the solution, like you said yourself.

Re: Deathsmiles IIX (Xbox 360) - GoD release in US/Can/Mex
From someone that really liked the first game, I am very impressed with DS2 after a few runs. I feel the last boss (and TLB!) are a lot more difficult that the rest of the game. It's not as striking as in Galuda for example, but noticeable nonetheless. I like the scoring system a lot, too, and the way the recharge is easier this time around. It's actually pretty intuitive.

Hi guys, I'm pretty late to this topic. I didn't know this game was out, outside of Japan. When did it come out in the us? and will there be a UK release for this, or are we going to get shafted once again?

Re: Deathsmiles IIX (Xbox 360) - GoD release in US/Can/Mex
Its not available in the UK. Cave is in a bit of a funny position atm as they no longer have a publisher for North America, thats why the went the GOD route. However for europe Cave have Rising Star Games as a publisher who seem to have a good working relationship together. ATM no more STGs have been announced by RSG but they have said they will be making one shortly. Considering how quiet Cave have been over a Euro DS IIX on GOD release ild bet that RSG will be the ones to publish it.

I have an American account on my xbox, would I still be able to buy and play it, or will it give me a region restriction error?
