And I want to see what a lot of you older people would've posted on message boards had you had internet (or BBSs, which already existed) when you were 15/16. I remember Durandal mentioning that when he was a kid, he was hated on a message board as well.

I was actually taking a look a couple days ago at some forum posts I made back when I was 14 (not under this name, so don't bother looking for it yourself if you don't know where to search). My demeanor was actually pretty close to what it is today, except I wrote more concisely back then, which isn't even a bad thing. You're certainly old enough to be able to read a social setting and understand what's appreciated and what's not, especially when it's on an online forum and there's no time limit to think through what you want to say.

The real reason I wanted to sell my BVM was because I was afraid of damaging it due to it being in the corner of my room next to my desk, and I had no better place to put it (there are 3 fucking CRTs in my room). I also felt guilty every time I saw it because I fucked up the deflection card (burnt part of a trace) when recapping it. I also broke my VA3 Genesis 1 that way

Selling it for not having RF is fucking retarded; I made that up.

I also decided not to sell it. I don't want an RGB-modded NES, but I'd sure like a composite-modded NES 101 (no adapter required, unlike AV Famicom).

And even I don't know what the fuck I was saying about using composite for Genesis/MD and that shit. I'll use RGB from that and through an RGB-to-YUV transcoder if using a consumer CRT without RGB. Same for other things. My thing now is just use the best possible signal the console came with (unless it's RF, in which case mod it for composite and S-Video).

Yeah, that was pretty naive of me to say. Did you have social experience before that? No one has liked me and have just ignored me for my entire life, so this is pretty much the first time I'm actually interacting with others. Sad, I know.

Depends on what you call "social experience." It's not like I had never seen a fellow human being in my life before, but I wasn't what you would call "popular" and I was actually terribly shy IRL (still am, in fact). But the advantage of posting on an online forum is that you can take as long as you need to understand what other people are saying and think about your own wording (or even decide not to respond at all), and there's no body language to worry about.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think the reason I do this is because I'm actually extroverted and want to talk with other people face-to-face, but have a ton of social anxiety that prevents me from doing it. Then I channel my deprivation of social interaction into posts on here; I post what I'd like to talk with friends about. I've gotten a lot less shy in the past few months, so I might have a chance making friends IRL. My behavior in person is/was completely different from here; I'm so cautious of what I say (because I'm afraid people will think I'm autistic if I don't speak like Ghandi) that it cripples me.

Actually, the social anxiety only really started around December; before that I did act the same in-person.

You seem dead centered on identifying all sorts of weird nonsensical reasons for people's reactions towards you, when it all really boils down to the fact that you seem completely unable to decipher the current tone and direction of a topic. Sloppy, silly and shoddy would be calling stuff by the wrong name to spare the feelings of some neurotic lunatics on the internet. I get that Super Aleste saw release as "Space Megaforce" in Deepest Bumfuck TX, or something, but that's not what's on my shelf. I'd like my Akumajou Densetsu to magically transmogrify into Castlevania III, but sadly they are very distinct entities and I'm stuck with its pussy loop for now. This isn't particularly rare or coveted knowledge, it's calling a spade a spade.

Very easy to do with modern internet, incidentally - even this humble unwashed hobbyist can google!

Now, I do think it's good etiquette to list regional titles when discussing JP stuff, and I'll happily adopt the former if there are no major regional differences (see recent Contra III discussion in sidescroller thread). Perhaps it's more consideration than contemptuously butthurt tribalists deserve, but communication is paramount. ¦3

BTW, overseas titles that airbrush members of wider series into stand-alone games can eat a dick. Space Megaforce, Pocky & Rocky, River City Ransom, Lightening Force... might've made sense at the time but holy fuck, it's okay to drop the charade at this point.

I prefer to use Pocky & Rocky and Pocky & Rocky 2, because I can't for the love of god remember the Japanese titles, and these two do feel like stand out chapters of the Kiki Kaikai series anyway, being the only ones made by Natsume, and feeling very much like it. That said, I always assumed "Pocky & Rocky" to just be the English language version of the "Kiki Kaikai" brand - were any of the earlier games ever released as "Kiki Kaikai" in the west?
The series is confusing with both arcade and console iterations litered around, never with any good ol' numerals in their titles. Instead I'd have to call the SFC games Nazo no Kuro Manto and Tsukiyozōshi. I'll be perfectly honest with you here, I had to look up both of these titles, and copy/paste them to make sure I got them right. So personally I also assume that most other people wouldn't know what I were talking about if I were to use those titles either.

I think there's a distinct difference between a Japenese title that's really just a different brand or title (Biohazard, Contra Spirits, Aleste), or something that's basically an entire untranslated sentence that would make perfect sense in English ("mystery of the black cape"), but is very difficult for people to remember at all if they don't use it commonly or have some understanding of the Japanese language.

But that's just my assumption. I'm not gonna call you elitist or pretentious if you call these games by they Japanese titles.

What do you guys think about Gryzor? I thought it was pretty cool as I had been mainly playing Puck Man at the time in the arcades. Later on I got to play Shadow Warriors on the NES which reminded me a bit of Gryzor.
