this is worrying me, the downtime will probably be right up when the game to be played is going to be announced.

We should set up a temporary forum somewhere to keep on touch.

I got a hands on the agreed shortlist for Hidden Gem Week!

When the downtime is over, the game selection will be:

[ ] Gun Frontier
[ ] Air Buster
[ ] Boogie Wings
[ ] Kingdom Grandprix
[ ] Trigon

This is going to be as great a week as Darius Gaiden Image

You should take Gun Frontier (Taito) off that fake list to make it look more convincing.

You can't get any more convincing than that.

There is such a thing as overkill.

You can't get more convincing than two Taito weeks in a row?

Although I didn't say anything about Trigon and Konami the first time.

I like Air Buster but... doesn't it have infinite boss milking? I seem to remember checking this last year (on the TG16 version at least)

Get Turbo Force on that shortlist and I promise I'll vote for it.

I think playing Turbo Force for score might make me hate it. Bad idea.

Hidden gem week should just be retitled NMK week.

#1 for list: Thunder Dragon 2

-Solid scoring elements.
-Challenging.
-Good.
-Announcer in the fine STGT tradition of Blazing Star, Batrider and Air Gallet. People will love it for this alone.

GigaWing, Gunbird 2, Battle Garegga, DoDonpachi (Chosen in '05), Batsugun Special, Mars Matrix (Confused counter stop), Brave Blade, G-Darius
I know you're busy playing lots of bad non-hidden gems, DJI, but thinking ahead to the better week:

-should drop Gunbird 2 and add Strikers II or 99. I think a Strikers has a better chance (5%) and are generally the favored Psikyo series.

-ESP Ra.De. in place of DoDonPachi. PLEASE ! It's "famous" by the standard any other game here would be and has a better scoring system for beginners, more free form/less memorization-based. Maybe you've already planned this. If so, good thinking.

-Just drop Mars Matrix. Nearly as memorization-based as DDP anyways.

-Brave Blade?

-G-Darius, disqualified.

If it was in MAME I think it'd be decent for hidden gem.

Air Buster is listed in the first post twice.

I'm wondering about the negative buzz over Bio-Hazard Battle. I haven't played it much, so I can't say, but Kiken said that it's hard, and I usually trust his opinion. Retro Core, who I don't trust nearly as much as Kiken, also said the game is hard.

If Varth ends up on the voting list, I will probably vote for it. I have a home version of it in CCC2. This time around, if the game is only playable by pirating, I won't play it. I felt I couldn't put my all into Viper Phase 1 because of that.

About Famous Manic week (and Hidden Gems while we're at it), I agree with Rob. Mainly I really don't want to play DDP. Too bad Guwange and Batrider are disqualified too.

This would be something like my ideal list:
Giga Wing, Strikers 2, Battle Garegga, Dangun Feveron, ESP Ra.De.

In addition to Rob's points, Batsugun is currently emulated shitty in MAME. I threw Dangun in there because it's Cave, and with the fuss over Progear they could use two chances here. Also, Dangun doesn't feel much like a traditional Cave game, so there's less chance of splitting the vote. (Actually, it would be great if they split the vote just so GP could cry about it.)

MAME32++ also uses the PS plugins. They help a lot, but not all of us have fast computers. They are still unplayable for me.

V-V - 1 (no sound)
Is no sound really a problem? Going over the list it is definitely one of the best few options.

I cleared it within a week, so it can't really be all that hard. It's a fine game, though. For comparisons sake: I haven't cleared ESPGaluda yet despite putting more time into it. And that game is generally considered to be easy, no?

On the other hand: It could just be that the games offer very different types of challenge and that one suits me better than the other.

This is a fine suggestion (Melt-Banana and Foo[t]bar). Finding good music/game combinations is at least a third of the fun.

BHB is easy. Lots of extends. Unless a Mega Play version is harder or something? Never tried it.
