The bomb is a little bit crappy though, as it takes so long to wind up. The only advantage is that you are completely invincible while its "firing".

See, I liked the Flying Pancake, this ship just doesn't compare.

-FP has a wide shot in addition to homing
-FP's level 3 charge attack cleared bullets / was as good as a bomb
-you could move around during a bomb, collecting gold

I was expecting something more broken, since I've heard it referred to as unfair. But so far I prefer Harrier.

Oh yeah, and in this game it seems enemies take more hits, so little homing shots aren't as useful.

Another thing about X-36 is perhaps speed. Seems to be the most neutral handling ship out of the lot.
That's how I feel anyway.
Otherwise, if I didn't choose that, I wouldn't know what to pick.

Yeah, the X-36 is nimble. The AV-8 on the other hand, damn this thing is slow.

Landshark - 1,052,000 - 2-1 - AV-8

Got to the boss with 2 extra guys and 2 bombs. Died with 1 bomb in stock (due to the Unknown Layer 0 error box), then died again with 2 bombs in stock. Then bombed 2 more times to kill him. What a bombfest as well as a waste.

This ship is so damned slow.

Replay is available if anyone wants it. (wolf108)

Now I could never understand how someone could use Hei-Cob, but how much speed do we really need here? Psikyo = tap... tap tap, etc.

It's not that slow. Has to be faster than the Raiden ships.

I died on the last boss because of the speed. While tap-tap-tapping through the spray of the 1-8 boss, the "tap" was not enough and I didn't see it because I was under the blue box - poof.

When you are used to a higher speed and you drop to a slower ship, it's very pronounced.

Hey, I'm pretty new here... just stumbled upon this forum looking for strikers 1945 III strats. I've been playing it at my school's arcade for almost a year now and my top score so far is about: 944000 X-36 1-8

I'm still have lots of practicing to do... especially with doing TB's without the bombs ( I can only get it on the mantis =\ ).

After taking quite a long break from shmups I've come back with the goal of clearing the first loop of this game (I suck something fierce at Psikyo shmups).

Put in about 6 hours or so during this last weekend and improved on my old score by quite a bit. I can't coin chain for shit though, my max is something like 13. :?

Shalashaska - 1,108,900 - 2-1 - X-36

New score! I no missed up until Chaos Queen's third form (as I have no idea how to dodge either patterns there) and then had a retarded death on her final form. I actually made it to the boss on 2-1 this time and then proceeded to be annhilated rather quickly.

Recorded a video but I don't know how to shrink it, it's like 330MB's. :)

No-miss up to 2-2 boss where I bit it (usually an easy water-boss). Mother fucking tank boss took 2 lives as usual. 2-4 train-boss last form last spray before the tech-b killed me. So close to 2-5 ... one day...

Go to Youtube.com and type in Strikers 1999 on the search engine. You can study how to tackle all 8 bosses via the tech-bonus method. there are also some stage-to-boss replays by shumper/landshark to checkout to. No 2nd loop replays yet, but im sure they will appear in time.

I uploaded it last night, and today youtube told me the video is too long. I don't understand why since I seem to have "director" status and I thought that got rid of the 10 minute video length limit.

So now I need to break the video up and then reupload.

Part 1 is compressed a little too much. But the others are fine.

Ah what the hell....

F/A-18 710,100 1-7

Tried to get into the game again after over a year. It´s very frustrating with my favorite planes, so I tried something different and used only the hornet. I still haven´t found out any advantage of it, but every ship is supposed to have at least one, I think. The rockets are extremely powerful when you hover over a bigger enemy, but that´s only useful on very few points in the game, and other planes do the job also very well in such situations.

And congrats on your progress landshark, very impressive.

Nice Realbout. That ship sucks to play with if you die as it's severely underpowered.

I dont why you think that tank boss is hard, just looks like a pattern to me. some of the 2nd loop stages look really hard. you just need to slug at it long enough until your brain adjusts to the shear speed of the bullets. Nice 2nd loop replay never the less. Ps, you can upload full length replay clips on Google video, though as we all know not as popular as Youtube.

The 1st half of the tank boss is pure dodging. There is a pattern, but there are so many aimed and not-aimed shots that it becomes random.

The 2nd half however has these fan-shots that get shot in groups of 3, 4 times in a row (and this pattern repeats 3 times at different points in the fight). They are not difficult to dodge on their own when you are near the bottom. However, after the 1st set, the boss sprays the bottom screen with bullets AND releases little enemies. You need to dodge the 2nd set while weaving through the bullets. He then shoots another barrage and you can inch up the side to a point. It's the last set that usually gets me. In all the replays I've seen of this being done, the player moves up the right hand side of the screen at full speed and the fan shots always miss.

Yet whenever I do it, I die. I've tried taps, and full speed moving. It never works for me.

Also, the last set of 4 barrages you HAVE to be up near the middle of the screen because he releases this spray that is impossible to dodge while dodging the fan shots.

I've tried many times with save states to pass this boss with a tech bonus. I've only done it a few times, and thats after many, many deaths.

It's one of those bosses I'll likely never get the hang of.

(give it try ;) )
