I miss hosting a game server. Used to ban your disk, IP address, and user handle. No TK allowed. Or, I could just throw in a wild card and ban your entire clan. You're butthurted, but all you can do is yell into the internet message boards. Good times.

Not having a dedicated server option in modern games should be considered as bad as a warcrime.

Friday the 13th was definitely a warcrime. I kept reading about its players complaining about the host leaving, and it was the strangest thing.

If you need to have your players host game servers, then just let them host game servers. Quake III from 20 years ago let people do that, I think?!

I still play Quake Live/Quake 3 with friends. Great game. Some cool new maps still come out.

I remember there being a server called Mrs. Miggins' Pie Shop last time I popped into Quake Live; one of the last holdouts of the self-hosted casual fun server, amidst the myriad stoic god-tier colloseo insofar as Q3 can be casual, at any rate.
