TRP-STGT 2017 Conversation Week 2: Last Resort
Re: TRP-STGT 2017 Conversation Week 2: Last Resort
Other version? Have you tried just plain old mame? I got the latest release and the emuloader frontend, and that works just fine.
Apologies if worthless post, just checking ;p

Re: TRP-STGT 2017 Conversation Week 2: Last Resort
You might be missing some files needed to play the game. Possibly the Neo Geo BIOS. Does the game not show up at all in regular MAME, or does it just not let you run it with a message about missing files? If the latter, try making a legal backup of the BIOS from your Last Resort arcade machine that you own and then save it as neogeo.zip in your roms folder.ACSeraph wrote:So... I have the rom, but my usual MAME Plus can't find it in the directory and no other version of MAME I download seems to be able to play it. I even redownloaded the rom with no luck. Any suggestions?
Re: TRP-STGT 2017 Conversation Week 2: Last Resort
I'm using MAME Plus as well and even with the Neo Geo BIOS, Last Resort doesn't show in the Available Arcades folder. But when I search for it in the All Arcades folder and double click on it to start, it seems to run just fine without any error messages
Re: TRP-STGT 2017 Conversation Week 2: Last Resort
This solved it, thanks everyone!Kyper wrote:I'm using MAME Plus as well and even with the Neo Geo BIOS, Last Resort doesn't show in the Available Arcades folder. But when I search for it in the All Arcades folder and double click on it to start, it seems to run just fine without any error messages
I'm so happy that I can now play it properly on my laptop instead of having to use that terrible Last Resort arcade cabinet I legally own.

MAMEPlus is really weird with NG games, you can't play it through command line exe.
BTW What happen to the PCB? No autofire installed?

Think I'd rather play Bakuretsu Breaker TWO BEE HONEST. That level 2 turret spam is so annoying, especially with all the slowdown. God forbid you mess up and grab a blue powerup...

The ground missiles (G) deal with that part quite effectively even if you get a blue orb.

Re: TRP-STGT 2017 Conversation Week 2: Last Resort
That was helpful, so thanks. I made it to stage 4 at the least. Maybe I can even get a clear. Last Resort kind of annoys me. I think it's what feels like input drops during slowdown/busy screens. Is it my imagination?
If I'm lucky I can get a bit better through some hard practice tomorrow.

It's not your imagination, it definitely drops inputs (particularly the B button) when the game slows down enough.
Re: TRP-STGT 2017 Conversation Week 2: Last Resort
Yeah it's really bad about ignoring the force pod lock button during slowdown. Anyway, as Shepardus says, with a maxed out G you can solve that section without relying on the charged shot. Still easier with the red pod, of course. H is good against the boss so switch to that after.

Why don't they make the whole ship out of the indestructible orb???
Re: TRP-STGT 2017 Conversation Week 2: Last Resort
A couple of days before the annoucement i got a copy of the game for AES, but since the postal services are dead at this time, mine won't arrive until next week.
I'll have to fire up MAME again.

Nah I've come around to it more. I mean yeah stage 1 is slow and a snooze and there's that chunk of stage 3 where you do nothing but stay still and shoot your force pod down for way too long imo but it's an otherwise good game with a lower level of challenge.
I wish it didn't take shootemup developers so long to realize that you can make stage 1s easy without having long stretches of nothing happening.

I have no idea why, but I am having a hell of a time with this game. Can't even get out of stage 1.
Christmas time is making it incredibly difficult to find time to play this also.

I honestly find stage 1 harder than stage 2 and maybe even stage 3. Not that there's much difference in the difficulty between any stages outside a few isolated sections.Mightysquirrel wrote:I have no idea why, but I am having a hell of a time with this game. Can't even get out of stage 1.

Have to admit, all the hyperboles this week are an unceasing source of joy. We definitely should have more classic horizontals in the future.

Everything was said already. Actual juicy bits start at stage 4. Everything before that is boring and drags for eternity.egg_sanwich wrote:Care to elaborate?

Re: TRP-STGT 2017 Conversation Week 2: Last Resort
So relived to get the 2-ALL and call this a wrap. I managed to actually record an INP for this one, but since I'm currently exactly outside of the requirements for needing to post a replay I'll just pass on that. This is a decent game, but at the moment I never want to touch it again. This game has scorned me and we are not friends. Last Resort really needed something else going on in it or at least a more interesting second loop. Trudging through the first loop after you're prepared for the second gets tedious fast.
I have no problem with this, I just hope they're better classic horizontals.Perikles wrote: We definitely should have more classic horizontals in the future.
Stage 1 is all about learning how to speedkill the tank midboss by spamming the charge shot so it goes down before it fires whilst using the G missiles and your option to deal with the other enemies. Once you get that down pat you're golden.Shepardus wrote:I honestly find stage 1 harder than stage 2 and maybe even stage 3.
