Even wm+ is failing me here - it mostly runs at full 100% but with a few dips. I forgot what I used to run Gokujou Parodius last time, but I think that might be helpful here.
I just tried PCSX Reloaded, using OS 10.5. Salamander 2 runs beautifully and smooth on that, and my computer isn't optimized for gaming. It only runs full speed in MAME OS X using frameskip. I've had best luck with .124 on Mac. Haven't yet gotten SDLMAME working to compare.

I knew the one week I'd be right would be the week I wouldn't pick the winner...oh well, this isn't a terrible game. Not really liking the GBA-esque visuals but whatever I'll roll with it. Two tiers of shot types, that's neat.
Salamander 2 has emulation problems and runs poorly on lower-end machines.
R-Type Leo is too easy for competition.
Black Heart is an irredeemable kusoge.
It might not be a kusoge, but from the few credits I've played, Black Heart doesn't seem to be a very good game either. The hitbox is fairly small (just under the guy's eyes to around his neck/breastplate?) but the entire player sprite is on the top layer of the screen. Any bullets that come near get hidden by the dragon's body so it's hard to accurately tell exactly when you're about to get hit, especially from bullets coming from behind or below. Very odd design.
Does it? I thought I've seen bullets go through the tail and hit. Is it the entire dragon's body that blocks shots, or simply the dragon's upper body? I'm guessing its wings don't block shots?
The wings don't block shots, and I don't think the tail blocks either. I'd have to play some more to figure out what parts can and can't block.
You can see when it blocks because it should make a "spark" version of the shot that is black and yellow instead of the normal colors.
