hello
I play this game on ps2, very good port,
however I think about the score system with the rapid shot and full auto
my score is 53 millions in maniac mode stage 4 without rapid buttons, and I can do 40 millions only on the second stage with the rapid buttons...
the conclusion is clear : there should be two different ranking, one with the rapid and the other one without (default buttons so)
What do you think about it?

I agree. What settings did you use for the special autofire buttons?kawaijb wrote:hello

I set the rapid shot at 5 for 10Hz and the rapid full auto at 2 for 30Hz
but,
I don't know if we can set two different rapid at the same time (specially for a 20Hz rapid full auto), and I don't understand the option default choices : "ok" or "NG", maybe it's linked...
an other question, in the training mode, I can't select "trace" or "formation", defaut make you play the 4th and 5th stage with formation and I want trace...
Is there smthg to do with the "rank" default option, and load smthg but I don't know, I have nothing to load...

Yeah, those rapid fire setings make no sense to me, so I just sort of gave up on them.NTSC-J wrote:So...how about that autofire-hacking-only score table? I assume everyone with scores listed so far is using the default configuration.
I've created an "Alternate Rapid Control" table for those that use any other rapid settings other than default. So done and done!NTSC-J wrote:So...how about that autofire-hacking-only score table? I assume everyone with scores listed so far is using the default configuration.
Personally, I don't even use Full Auto at all, let alone Rapid Shot and Full Auto.
Actually, I think it's more appropriate to have tables in which no rapid fire buttons are allowed. A few people here wanted to play with only the stock three buttons (shot, bomb, and full auto). Also, the tables in which rapid fire buttons are allowed should allow for any rapid fire setting, default or otherwise. (What are the default settings, anyway?)SFKhoa wrote:I've created an "Alternate Rapid Control" table for those that use any other rapid settings other than default. But the auto shot is in the default settings.BER wrote:Actually, I think it's more appropriate to have tables in which no rapid fire buttons are allowed. Fuckin Cave, this rapid fire shit is stupid. I just want to play the game on one level playing field as everyone else.
It defaults both rapids to '1', if I remember correctly.BER wrote: Actually, I think it's more appropriate to have tables in which no rapid fire buttons are allowed. Is that what I now call the rapid shot (the quick, pulsing shot obtained from hardware hacks in the arcade)?NTSC-J wrote:But the auto shot is in the default settings.
I thought the rapid fire settings in the PS2 port serve as a starting point for players to the settings with which they are comfortable, not as defaults by which everyone should abide. But if the culture here wants to treat these settings as defaults, then I don't mind.

Here's how it goes: the PS2 has the following button-assignable functions.
Shot - 'A' button in arcade
Bomb - 'B' button in arcade
Full auto - 'C' button in arcade (software autofire)
rapid shot - 'A+' in arcade (hardware autofired Shot)
rapid full auto - 'C+' in arcade (hardware autofired full auto)
By default rapid shot/A+/rapid full auto/C+ have _NO_ buttons assigned to them. That's the DEFAULT.
So to be clear...
If you play with just 'shot, bomb and full auto' you are on the 'default' table.
If you assign buttons to anything that starts with 'rapid', you're on the 'alternate' table.

7,921,149 - Stage 5 - Original
Almost there... I'll get the all clear by the weekend. Anyone else getting REALLY fucked off with getting killed by some random shit on Stage 3, and to a lesser but still annoying extent on Stage 4?

Well, I was trying to avoid posting arcade scores, but I had a really good run today.

Oh..so..very..close. Had I just one more bomb the clear would've been mine. The final boss was on its last quarter of energy.

Oh, I'm apparently listed twice in the Original table, once is quite enough.

Stage 4 is currently slamming me in all modes, although I did get to the boss a few times. Stage 3 I'm finding considerably easier than stage 2, again in all modes, trick is to be using formation options and have three of them. The smaller enemies pouring in from the sides basically die as they appear, leaving only small numbers of bullets to think about.GaijinPunch wrote:Anyone else getting REALLY fucked off with getting killed by some random shit on Stage 3, and to a lesser but still annoying extent on Stage 4?
Original mode score isn't worth posting, I can't seem to generate decent points in it.

MrMonkeyMan - 29,727,300 - ALL - Original
The clear on arrange mode in that run came as a total surprise. I had no bombs or lives left, and the boss still had a small chunk of health, but I somehow managed to dodge that attack for 10 seconds or so and took him down.
The original mode score was pretty much the same thing. I went forever on that last boss with no bombs to just hang on for the extra 10 million points. I really need to abuse those bombs in original (I think I used every one I had in that run).

Default settings.
I wish I actually understood this whole milking of points through parent/child banking or whatever it is, totally bamboozles me!
PS. Is it just me or is stage 3 like a tribute to R-Type (Stage 3, whole level over a huge boss). Just an observation I made.

GAME OVER YEEEEAAAAH!
I'd say just play up to Stage 4 with the Trace option then use the restart option in the pause menu to practice.kawaijb wrote:so nobody knows how to practise stage 4 and 5 with the "trace" option?
the use of the rapid buttons has been spread in the arcade center in japan, many(a lot) mushihime cabinets are hacked with rapid buttons, so it makes sense to use them on ps2
actually playing without is an other challenge
